I saw a stainless Charles Daly tactical pump shotgun at a gun shop. I want your opinions on this. Are they any good? They are made from a light alloy steel, but I haven't heard anything bad about them.

I don't mean to be rude, but..............

Do you really want to fund the Red Army?

Mossberg has a comparable price, excellent track record and is made here.

They are made in Turkey by Akkar. They are pretty good shotguns for the money but there are no after market accessories for them that I am aware of. If you like it as is buy it and let us know what you think.

I believe AKKAR has a website.

I have been visiting this site and its sister site the Firing Line for quite some time and have , in the past found these sites to be inclusive and informative. As of late folks have been posting about some of the shotguns that are being imported by some AMERICAN manufacturers and sold legally on the Amercan market at prices that are unheard of . People have used this forum to share and inquire about these guns and, surprisingly have been castigated by others due to the fact that some of these guns are imported from countries that don't pass the sniff test of political correctness with some members that post here. First, I will contend that these countries are not on my favorite nation status due to the fact that some are totalitarian dictatorships and I too remember the scenes of Tianaman Square and the actions of the Soviet Bear. We, as buyers/consumers live in a free country that thrives in a global market and have the freedom to choose to our desires content. All of these companies are global now and by infusing capitalism into other countries, are causing those people to hope for the freedoms we so enjoy. What stymies me is what occured in the last election in that people did not look at the big picture and voted their pocketbooks and forgot that their rights are now hanging on the balance of a supermajority in both houses of the congress and senate. I'm willing to bet that some put their rights on the back burner lurk on this forum, but will not admit to doing so. It just galls me to see some of the remarks made aginst other human beings who would just love to enjoy a fraction of the freedoms we enjoy and slam some of the firearms that are being queried here. I'm appalled at the hate that is shown toward those who suffer under these regimes and are being abetted by companies that legally, though not popularly import these arms. It, to me is not the buyers fault because they want a bargain. Remember the so called "Saturday night special"? Remeber the attack on Pearl Harbor? We now have Japanese companies building cars here. My hope is that we can come together collectively and accept that folks will also shop their pocket books and hopefully keep the firearm industry strong in this country and not argue among ourselves about origin and be objective without prejudice.

The Red Army?

This is the thinking that's got my country in the current mess we're in. We also have first amendment rights. I choose not to buy/sell these, what are mostly cheap knock off, shotguns. These companies steal proven designs and pound them out with near slave labor. Come on!

You're stymied? This is what we've created in America.

I'm appalled at the hate that is shown toward those who suffer under these regimes and are being abetted by companies that legally, though not popularly import these arms.

What are you talking about? Now you've suggested in your "write up" that we all support these companies by purchasing these firearms so as to help those "who suffer under these regimes". It's America's willingness to look the other way for cheap "things" that allows this "suffering" to go on. So what is it? Do we buy or no?

Look, I could go on and on. Forced abortions, political and religious persecution, slave labor, fraud, industrial sabotage, dead pets and injured children are things that I "choose" NOT to support.

Thank You.

Yes, that is quite off topic, although we did arrive here by a comment made about the shotgun of original topic.

I'd prefer the 870 or a mossy.

I love Mossbergs and swear by older Remingtons. Yes I do have a Pardner Pump in 20 Ga. and love it as well. Just to note, I also happen to work on weapon systems that will anihilate the Red Army in one fell swoop and do not fear any advance from them. I am a quality wonk ( nuclear inspector by trade) and also tactful and respectful of others and was drawn to this forum because of those very qualities. It was not my desire to offend, just to enlighten. Sorry to get off topic. Oh yeah, I have been here for quite some while and have changed my handle due to ISP changes. So ... troll is not my moniker. :neener:

Then you should make good money and be able to afford quality, original, American made products such as Mossberg, Remington and Smith and Wesson.

No offense or disrespect, but, try using paragraphs as one big blob is really no fun to read.

As to the OP, I am leary of CD quality. It has, at least at times in the past been hit or miss. I would suggest finding a used 870 Wingmaster and go from there.

I bought a Red Army shotgun, a Norinco 982. It came down to the Norinco 982 or the Remington 870. I picked the Norinco not because the Chinese is cheaper, but because it is better built and designed than the Remington.

How Remington can still be in business by failing to innovate and milking the same design for 50 years is beyond me. I'm in a line of business where I have to remain competitive every day or my job will go to China. And I do remain competitive, I love to compete. I have no sympathy for complacency.

Those who refuse to compete like Remington are dragging this country down. They are sleeping on a reputation hard-earned by their forefathers and complacent.

I just went and bought a new 12 Ga. Pardner today and compared it to a Rem. Express. No comparison and it is the SAME company(Cerebus(sp.?) Remington,H&R) that is importing them.:what: I frequent a mom and pop gunshop here in Grafton,Va. and I told them of the furor that these guns bring on these sites and they rolled their eyes. The stated that they are selling very well with No returns. Now for those who love OLDER Rems, there is a nice model 31 in VGC at Winfree firearms in Grafton, Va. for 295.00. I would have bought that gun BUT I want a woods shotgun and the Pardner fit the bill nicely. There is a nice Model 12 Winchester there also and a few Auto -5 Brownings to boot.
Could I afford any of the guns mentioned? You betcha!!:) But I wanted a woods beater and have filled the bill.

A question for all here, if you wanted to spend no more then $300 including tax but wanted the best shotgun you could get basically for home defense what brand and gauge would you suggest?

I am now looking for one and have an open mind, sure my local mom/pop store recommends probably what he makes the best profit on but can buy the same for around $30 less online, don't like buying online, well not guns.

No single shot, pump or auto and why you suggest which.

So brand/models please.

Isnt' the Norinco 982 an 870 copy? Rip off non-innovation at it's best.

It's the people that removed the tariffs and import taxes on "imports" like the Norinco that are dragging this country down. We're a dumping ground for anything and everything the worst of the world has to offer. All the while American companies are denied access to those same markets or are severely limited when it comes to exporting to them.

The Chicoms do not innovate or create, they mearly steal or copy what already exists. Take a look at all the rip off/copy cat consumer goods such as Callaway golf clubs or Microsoft software to mention a couple off the top of my head.

This is what hurts America, this, and unfair competition. We are in no way on a level playing field, anyone who says otherwise should be dismissed out of hand.

As far as I'm concerned the 870 works and doesn't need to be changed. I won't comment on Remington being innovative. I'm aware of them coming out with several new items at this year's SHOT, some of which could certainly be considered "innovative". It probably has been copied more than any other shotgun design in history. I would agree that alot of American companies are complacent, ala GM, Ford etc...However, why change something when it works? For change sake?

Buy what you want, you have that freedom. If the cheapest, lowest bidder, imported product is what you want then go for. These companies and countries have interests and ideas that are contrary to mine, my family's and my country's. That is something I, in good conscience, cannot support.

I must agree with Hags
The Chicomminese are the most oppressive, corrupt, inhuman PPl currently on the planet, for them killing a million or so fellow chinese is a simple business decision. Too them killing americans with intentionaly poisened baby formula, toys, flouresent light bulbs, pet foods and even drywall is a enjoyable way of making a profit from slave labour.
Mrbambastic may not be a fool but he plays one on the internet.

I'll pitch my two cents, ThatsJon. Mossberg 500-readily available, less expensive than the 590, barrels available from 18.5" cyl to 28" mod and beyond. Tang safety(personal taste) Can be found in my area under $200. Choice 2: Ithaca 37: not for everyone, unusual load eject system, crossbolt safety, pre s/n 855,000 do not have interchangeable barrels. Older models do not have a disconnector, it will "slamfire"(not recommended). Have seen several pre 855,000 models locally under $250. Super smooth slick operation. 37s are sort of like Mopar in the Ford vs. Chevy debate of Remington vs. Mossberg.

By the way, this one should have gone in a new thread.

My Uncle owns nearly a dozen shotguns, many worth several thousand bucks. But the one he shoots more than the rest combined, is his cheap Charles Daly 20 gauge pump. He says its really fun.

As long as you're not looking for a family heirloom to pass down to your great grandchildren, get the CD.

And yes, I think they are out of business.

These companies steal proven designs and pound them out with near slave labor.

That doesn't sound much like Turkey.
