......And all other RKBA and gun related sites via their "free" WiFi connection. I had some time 'tween flights this past Saturday and decided to pass the time on my laptop...........the following block appeared:

I didnt check to see if "alternative" lifestyles and the like were equally blocked. First airport I've encountered this issue----and I travel many.

Content fiilters are stupid and often miscategorize things. It'll lump everything from knives to nukes into the "weapons" category and block it. I've had to unblock many miscategorized sites using them (although THR IS technically a weapons site).

Why are they filtering public Internet access? How stupid.

And I say this as a professional network admin.

Then again, I'd never give an airline or airport a dime of my money as long as I live.

Darn right,DMK. I'll only fly again if it's an emergency. I'll take my truck where the Constitution still holds and nobody treats me like a criminal. Last time I flew I thought they were gonna make me strip down and get sprayed for lice.

How can they filter that? Is the airport technically private property? That's very interesting too, because at least at Lambert in St. Louis they sell Guns & Ammo,Combat Handguns and a few other gun mags.

Is it really a "free" WiFi connection? If so, I guess you're out of luck...

But if it's something that every passenger gets hit with a surcharge for, no matter how small, I'd be raising a stink about it! Either way, I'd pass on giving them any more business.

I feel lucky, the only filter I've hit was at a hospital, that blocked ALL message boards.

Seeing as how saying BOMB or GUN in an airport can ge you in trouble, common sense would dictate to me staying off sites where gun pics may pop up.

Why? Will downloading a picture of a gun cause my computer to blow up?

People read magazines with pictures of guns in them on planes all the time, well at least us gunnies do. But aside from that, lots of the paperback thrillers and mysteries have the word GUN in them all over the place, some even show a gun on the cover, or crosshairs, or a bomb or a knife!

I've even bought gun magazines in the secure area of the airport. I wouldn't worry about having pictures of guns on a computer or otherwise in the airport. Now if you're going to a public school you should be careful because the thought police are very active in public schools.

I just avoid doing anything that could be construed in any way as terroristic in an airport, where everyone is on a hair trigger. I know I am doing nothing wrong, but when the nosy neighbor peeks over and sees pics of an AR being built, and decideds to notify securiy that I am researching how to make an illegal automatic weapon, it isn't worth th risk to me.

It all stems from an incident in which my laptop was thought to be not legit, and I got to do some explaining and still almost lost it.

though you can't get on those websites in the Charlotte airport i can promise you that the charlotte area is very gun friendly, that is near my home town and there are lots of gun sales, shows, and great gun stores there.

I saw the same thing at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland. All pro-gun sites were blocked I could reach "anti" sites like the Brady Campaign, Freedom States Alliance and the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence.

funny...the only magazines i buy at airports are gun magazines, and that's usually the only place i buy them. how come i can buy a magazine about guns, but i can't engage in online conversation about them?

Let me get this straight.

You waited for 2 hours in a security line...
surrendered your nail clippers...
presented your ID whenever anyone asked...
let a complete stranger rummage through your belongings...
they confiscated your shampoo...
and, you took off your shoes and hopped around barefoot, just because someone in a uniform told you to...
and your biggest problem was the WiFi internet service?

Can you tell I'm no longer a fan of flying commercial anymore?

In fact, after being taken for a ride in a small private plane, I've decided that its the only way to fly!
(If you have the money and time to invest... I don't :(, unfortunately.)

Of course, there's also driving.... you get to actually see the country,
and there's no security screening or footsie strip search involved!

I guess they are taking lessons from the Chinese Communists on how to regulate what 'the people' are allowed to view.

Ironically, China does not ban THR, at least not when I last visited in March.

The last law firm I worked at blocked the ATF website until I pointed out that we would have to give up representing a significant number of potential clients (anyone connected with ANY of the materials ATF regulates). Talk about imposing PCness.
