Charter Arms.38

Just purchased a charter arms .38 5 shot (J frame size). get to pick it up in a week. Will grips from a smith J frame fit on the Charter Arms? how about from taurus?

If not a direct fit can they be modified to fit?

Don't know about current models but years ago I had an older Undercover and S&W J frame grips would not fit it. I switched between using Pachmayr Compac grips (mostly for the range), and a Tyler T-Grip adapter for concealed carry.

You'll have to get grips made for the Charter Arms. J-frame grips will not fit.

Can you modify them? Well I'm sure you CAN. Most anything CAN be done.

In my experience though the grips that come on a Charter are pretty good.

Charter Arms says that grips from any of one of their revolvers (Undercover, for example) will fit that model from any year.

Since Bannockburn (post 2) could not fit S&W grips to his, then it appears that, whichever example you're going to get, those grips will not fit yours.

I don't know if yours is new, or if you're getting a vintage one, but they are pretty much all decent and solid shooters, assuming they were sold under the "Charter Arms" name, and not under the "Charco" or "Charter 2000" names. I have two from the mid-eighties (one of which is stainless) and one from the mid-sixties.

I have two Charter Arms revolvers and like the factory grips just fine. The OP may find that changing them out is a non-issue after he starts shooting it.

I'm agreement with Tallball. I've got a J-frame S&W and a couple of Charter .38 snubs, all with original grips, and I like them all just fine. I don't see a need for me to swap grips.

I now have two being shipped here, Michigan, from North Carolina where I Purchased them. A .38 and a .32.

I would like to add fake ivory or pearl grips to these charters. Following general Patton"s advice about a business in New Orleans, if I remember correctly.

I have found that by drilling stud holes in Smith J frame grips they will fit on Taurus M85 guns. so was hoping for something similar for Charter Arms guns.
