In July 2009 I bought my first handgun.
It was a Charter Arms 38 Spl Model 73820 - stainless

Well come to find out that was in the pits of their existence.
It's been back to the factory 2x
The first time was right away cuz it was spitting lead all over.
When I got it back, they had re-barreled it,
but it looked like an untrained monkey ground down the crane.
I was definitely not happy & my emails went unanswered.

The 2nd time it went back (late 2013) was totally my fault.
I stripped it down for a thorough cleaning & lost a part or two.

When I got it back, not only did they replace the spring & plunger that went flying,
but they also replaced the crane & just worked it over.

So kudos & three cheers to their repair dept.
And it seems more accurate now too.

Some of my posts here were not flattering about Charters.
But because of my latest experience, I'd definitely look again.

My Charter Arms Pitbull 9mm had an issue with the ejector rod. I contacted them by Email and they replied with a pre-paid return shipping label and fixed the gun promptly. I'd say the new ownership is trying to turn things around.

Complaints about guns made by the previous incantation of the company name are not really fair to the current owners, but its part of what they got when they bought the name.

I've never even seen or held a CA gun in person. Didn't know they have a new ownership either. But when the service department switches out something like that crane for a new part unrequested it seems like they are looking to go that extra mile to aid in building up a new and improved reputation.

I bought a stainless Bulldog that had sat in a briefcase in a wet car truck for who knows how long. Cheap. Good amount of pitting on the frame and cylinder and would lock up every tenth cycle of the action.

Sent it into Charter and for $49.95 they said they'd fix it up.

Came back in about a week and a half and not only did they fix the lock up but they replaced the cylinder.

Family owned, and it shows.
