I am looking for a "value" (read low budget) snub nose revolver in .357. I have searched around for comparisons between the Rossi and Charter, but nothing is very current (2008 was the most recent). I know Charter has been on the up swing, or at least that's what I've read. Rossi is made by Taurus and seems to get ok reviews.

This would be a light use gun for some range work and ccw.

So, any recent reviews or comments from folks who have experience with these? Which one to get? Or, should I kick it up a few bucks and get the Taurus 605?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

This. or... find a better quality used gun. Rather than spend $300-325 on a low quality gun, you can spend $350 and get a used Ruger SP101 or similar. If you're not hung up on .357 out of a snubbie, you could even find a used S&W 642/638/etc... in that range.

Buy a used Ruger or Smith, if you can find it. I do have a Rossi 461 that has never given me any problems, but you'll notice the quality difference, if only in the triggers.

Charter Arms

My first .357 Mag was a Charter Arms Bulldog, its a 5 shot with a 4 inch barrel. I still have it and it has been a winner! I have shot so many 38 Specials and 357 mags through it I couldnt ever guess at the amount of rounds it has fired.
It still gets used on the range almost every week in the summer and is one of my first choices for CC. I am not that big and that little 4 incher hides in my shoulder holster really well.
Just tired to figure out how many years I have had that thing and its got to be over 20 years.
With the amount of use this gun has seen its still tight and very accurate. In actuality it shoots as well, if not better than my K frame model 19 SW.
