i was seeing photos and tales of a charter pitbull in 40 sw with ADJSUTABLE rear sights. and 5 inchb arrels. It got me thinking. .40 sw is considered fine for deer and a 5 inch barrel would be awful fun. on range and hunting.

So i got looking, couldnt find one online, so contacted the maker. withing 14 hours i had a response. When charter arms gets its backlog caught up, they will be making a longer barrel pitbull again.

sadly 4.2 inch barrel. and no idea if it will be a fixed sight model or adjsutable.
makes me sad.

im not a canadian. i want 5 INCHES. im an american. i like barrel length.

Canada bans revolvers with a 4 inch or less barrel. For years the six inch barrel has been the next standard size up on most guns, so Canada has a pent up demand for shorter guns that are still legal. Basically there is more demand for a Canadian legal barrel than a 5 inch barrel, which is why manufacturers have started making 4.2 inch barrels.

I don't blame you for wanting a 5 inch barrel though. My current bucket list gun is a Model S&W 27 with 5 inch barrel.

Have a look on the used gun sites for a S&W Model 610. 6 inch full lug, takes moonclips, 10mm or .40 S&W. This would be more versatile for hunting or range work and probably of better quality than a Charters gun.

it was a thought of mine years ago but the thing is...

on the used market, im not seeing anything under a 1000 that doesnt have "sold" in the advertisement headling.

Maybe they'll make a longer 9mm PITBULL too.. Although my craving for a long-barreled 9mm revolver has pretty much been satisfied with the S&W 929 :)

It is interesting that the Canadian dividing line between prohibited and restricted handguns is a 105mm (4.134") barrel. If it were a nice even 100mm (3.94") the country would no doubt be flooded with 4" barrels from south of the border; FLOODED, I tell you.

S&W once made a bunch of 4 1/8" barrels because it looked like the US definition of Saturday Night Special was going to be 4". Even those would not be able to sneak into Canada.

Probably why the limit was set at that.
In Australia the limit was set at 100mm for revolvers, 120mm for pistols, so they could ban those pesky Glock 17s. I helped facilitate importation of 122mm Glock barrels and got the first one in the country.

ive read that some owners say the trigger guard/grip assembly is now plastic instead of aluminum. can anyone confirm this?

Jerry, the only aluminum frames CA has are in 38 spl. The rest are either blued steel or stainless. The frame with trigger guard is one piece.

You are correct, I called the grip/trigger guard part of the frame assembly. I should have said the grip/trigger guard is one piece. I stand corrected.

I still ask, has C.A. started making the trigger guard/grip assembly out of plastic, polymer.... et cetera?
