hey any one know of a good quality rifle model that costs under $500.. I'm just now getting in to varmit hunting after hunting birds for a couple months. if there is a topic about this sorry.

If you aren't set on getting a .204 you can get a stevens in .223 for around $300. They are fine rifles for the money and everyone reports excellent accuracy.

And there was a sale at Dick's Sporting Goods for a remington sps varmint for $450. It was available in .204 and last time I was at Dick's they had a few in stock for the same price, so you may have some luck their.

If you are not adverse to single shot rifles you can get a NEF in 204 Ruger for under $250. Mine shoots comparably to my Ruger M77 Mark II 22-250 that I paid more than 2x for.

Northlander on the Savageshooters.com forum has several -

Savage Model 12 Varmint Rifle - Synthetic Stock
26" Blued 204 Ruger Varmint Barrel
4-12X40mm Simmons Scope
$445.00 + $20.00 S&H to your FFL

I'll add to the Savage vote - my Savage12FV in .204 Ruger cost me about $450 and it routinely turns in 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups. You won't regret the .204 for varminting either - recoil is so minimal you can watch your hits happen through the scope. Very flat shooting and surprisingly resistant to wind drift, likely because of the velocity. It's fun to have a rifle in your hands and know that if you can see it, you can hit it.

Wow thank you so much for all the input. I will definitely look at those savages.
