Cheap 45 Ammo Suggestions Please

Guys, I could use your wisdom. I'm going to buy a new CZ 45, but ammo is so expensive nowadays. So which brands would you suggest I try in my gun at the range? I've tried the Korean PMC ammo in rented 45's and it worked fine. Other inexpensive brands which I've seen on-line are Magtech, Wolf, Fiocci, Sellier and Belot, and Winchester white-box. So please tell me about your experience with these and other low-cost stuff. Thanks in advance.

Fiocci is fine.

SB is fine.

Winchester White box is fine.

Look for deals and then buy as much as you can afford when you can find it.

I reload for $5 per 50. I gave up trying to find cheap .45 ammo.

Or buy reloaded 45acp range ammo from The Hunting Shack out of Montana. That's what I use, and its a good buy. They make factory ammo and reloaded range ammo for law enforement agencies and sell to the public. Their 30-06 150 and 165gr SP ammo is good stuff for deer hunting and much less in bulk than Walmart. I also still got 1/2 case of PMP ammo 45acp, 220gr, South African Company. But I don't see it for sale anymore.

Blaser works as good as any for target and plinking. Have not seen any at Wally world lately, but it was about $13 for 50 rds. a few months ago.

Academy has been running some good specials lately on WWB. PMC is good but I don't shoot Wolf. Steel cases and looks like they load them with black powder when you shoot. It is a rather large initial expense, but reloading is definitely the way to go if you shot very much at all. I used to buy A box and shoot it sparingly. Now I reload and shoot all I want. At .16/round it is a lot more affordable.

Some WWB .45 is loaded by Sellier and Bellot in the Czech Republic. I have seen this ammo at Sportsman's Warehouse.

All of the WWB from Wal Mart is loaded in the USA and is new brass.

I bet the "local gunshop" did not have any WWB in stock and wanted you to buy another brand, right?

I get Blazer 45acp fmj whenever I can find it. About six months ago I paid about $11/box50, but latest buy was something around $18/box/50. It's good ammo. I like Fiocci and S&B whenever I can find it. I'm carrying S&B fmj. Hey, it starts out bigger than the little stuff ends up after the little stuff expands---if it does. And if the little stuff (JHP) fails to expand, look out behind! You don't want some one standing behind the perp if the 9mm jhp (at around 1100fps) fails to expand! The lower velocity 45FMJ (around 850-900fps) isn't really going anywhere after it gets to the perp! It stopped the bad guys in WWI & WWII---it'll stop the bad guys in my living room! I had a box of Winchester "self defense" white box which gave me five "fail to ignite" out of the same box! I asked the Winchester guys at the NRA convention and was told it was their regular "good stuff." I'm doubtful--I wouldn't bet my life on it!

I buy Blazer Brass and WWB. It's actually cheaper to buy that ammo for brass to reload after I shoot it than it is to buy once fired .45 brass.

I'll second (or, what third? Fourth?) the blazer brass. I've never had a problem finding it at my WalMart, though I havent looked lately now that I think about it. It equels out to be a few dollars cheaper than the winchester white box. And, the added bonus is my Rock Island shoots more accurately with it.

Reloading is the only way to go if you plan to shoot a lot of .45ACP unless you have money to burn.

When I fell victim to the 45acp caliber, I fell hard. Then my wife bought me a gun magazine to stick in my Christmas stocking last Christmas. There was this article titled something like, "Is it Time to Start Reloading?" Aw Jeez! That did it. After lurking my butt off in a fever, I ended up buying a Lee Classic Turret Press setup. I figure 75 boxes of ammo and I will break even on the cost of the loader and the rest of the setup. Not only did I end up with affordable ammo, I added another hobby at the same time. And there's no range fee, targets or gas to buy to reload. I love the shove of a 45acp.

To answer your question though I have great luck with PMC. If you want something a little more American get teh American Eagle loaded by Federal for about a dollar more a box.

I ordered some ammo from natchez this week. CCI 9mm 115 FMJ was $7.99, tonight its at $8.49 and they are still out of Blazer Brass, I guess everyones stocking up. I only ordered 2k rounds.
I only have one .45 thats old and I rarely shoot it, but since I was already ordering ammo and having to pay shipping anyway I added a couple boxes of Blazer .45 on it too, $12.99/50.

Reload it! But fair warning, reloading is a very serious sickness that is highly infectious. The first step is buying a press,any press. Then you'll find yourself at the range, shooting, but wondering what sort of cartridge that is lying on the ground and you have to pick it up. Before too long, you'll spend more time scounging brass than shooting. Then, you'll start swapping brass that you don't have a gun for to get brass for the gun you have. Then you have too much brass for a gun you don't have and have to buy that gun as it's a shame to let all of those cartridges go to waste....I hope you have an understanding wifey!

But yeah, reloading is the way to go for any of the big calibers.
