Okay, I just bought a new Kimber Custom II 1911, and I want to find a cheap and reliable ammo that i can purchase in my area. All the Ammo that I've found is $14 a box, but back in San Antonio I bought some Magtech ammo which was like $8 per box. THe stuff didn't seem any dirtier than WWB or Remmington, and no misfiers/jams in 200 rounds.

When I bought the gun the guy at the shop said that Magtech was bad ammo, but I got the feeling he was just saying that because they didn't have any on hand, and only wanted me to buy that Speer GOld dot hollow points.

Anybody know where I can get cheap 45 ammo in the AUstin Area?

Thanks in advance!!!

magtech ammo is very good ammo. it sells for between 12-16 dollars a box here. you can go to walmart and get some blazers,,,,those are cheaper and i thought they were good. if you have a good 45 it should have no problem with most if not all factory ammo.

Magtech says in thier catalouge that Jerry Mikulek (sp?) uses this ammo for all his competitions...

Magtech is fine. They wanted you to use Gold Dots for range, or CCW?
Using Gold Dots for plinking would get expensive quickly.

The only issues I've ever had with Magtech were extremely hard primers in 357 mag. 45 ACP has been 100% reliable.

I love Magtech. It's my favorite practice ammo and the absolute best ammo in my .30 Carbine Ruger Blackhawk. You said it yourself - the guy didn't have it.

P.S. Magtech brass is also awesome to reload if you're into that.

Magtech Ammo

I used .45 ACP Magtech in my Wilson Combat CQB, no problems. Cases polished up nicely and went bang after reloading.

It was this past summer at Nagel's on San Pedro inside loop 410. Hopefully the price is still the same. They are really good people, always been straight with me and very helpful.

Stay away from Norinco ammo. from China! Trust me I destroyed two barrals one in .45acp and the other was a 9mm. Using at the time about 7 or ten yrs. ago I don't even look at that China ammo anymore [would not take it if it was free].

I've only used Magtech in .380 not .45. It functioned flawlessly. I can't say the same thing for Aguilla.

Are they still selling that for $8 a box? Hopfully we are talking about the same gunshop on the north side of town.

I picked some up from them like 2 years ago when I was in SA and shot it without incident.

I think what these guys meant to say was "MagTech rocks!" If so, +1.
