I have owned two XD Subcompacts, and my only gripe about them is the trigger - it is plagued by creep. Whenever I am at the range I can feel the sear jerking along the striker, until it finally lets go. Its distracting and annoying. This easy mod helps to solve that issue (I am sure others have done this and posted about it, but thought I'd offer my .02)

ALWAYS CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR FIREARM IS UNLOADED BEFORE WORKING ON IT!!!

First, you need to disassemble your frame until you get the sear out. I won't go into the details of stripping the frame, there are instructions and videos out on the interweb. I will say that after a few times I can completely strip and reassembly the lower in about a minute or two :)

The part of the sear that faces towards you as you hold the gun to fire it is the surface that rubs against the striker. Any friction you can remove hear will significantly improve the trigger. I started with 1000 grit sandpaper and then went for 2000 grit to polish that surface. I then buffed it on a buffing wheel until the rubbing surface had a mirror-like finish.

Reassemble the gun and check your trigger. You should notice a significantly smoother trigger pull. I am extremely pleased with the results on my XD-9 SC. The next step for me is to polish the mating surface on the striker, so that both the sear and striker are extremely smooth. This should work on every XD out there, I am going to work with my step-dad on his XDM this coming weekend, will report back with results :)

I haven't experienced this problem on any of the XD's I've owned but I may try this out on the two I currently have to see if it makes my good triggers even better.

Now my M&P .40C has a very gritty trigger. I plan on hitting it with a good teflon lube next time I have it down.

If that doesn't work I may have to tear into it and see if I can perform something along this line to it.

Thanks for the heads up, it's always nice to learn of an improvement especially when it's free!

:)

I have stumbled onto a way to have a really great XD trigger. I installed a Springer Precision kit and was impressed, but I still wanted better.

Look at the rear of the slide and watch the sear move up as you slowly depress the trigger. There is a lot of creep before the sear/striker releases.

I tried to estimate, in thousandths, how much this was. I zeroed in the sear on my mill and cut .010" off the top of the sear. I got lucky and hit it the first time. The trigger is crisp and near creep free. Now polish the sear and striker to tune the pull weight.

You could do the same thing using sandpaper, good files, etc.

Last night I decided to finish the job, so I drove out the striker retaining roll pin, and sanded the striker with 1000 grit sandpaper, then used a fingernail buffer to polish it, and finally a buffing wheel with white compound. The end result is outstanding! I can hardly believe how much this improved the trigger, it feels like a different gun.
