I'm looking for a cheap shotgun. I already have a nice Mossberg 590A1 18.5" bbl and parkerized with ghost ring sights, I want something cheap now, with just a bead, that I can just beat around. I think the Norinco shotguns would fit the bill nicely, but I'm not sure which one. I'm looking to spend less than $200 on the thing brand new. Which Norinco is for me? Or maybe a Maverick? Where can I get them at this price?

pump? semi auto? single? i love my NEF 20gauge that i have a 12gauge barrel for and am probly getting a .223 for :)

I have NEF Pardner Pump 12 ga I'm very pleased with. You see these going at Dick's for under $200 at times.

I own a maverick 88 its a good gun for the price
i dont shoot it much , only fired about a 100 rounds through it
no problems yet.
Bought it new at a show i paid $225 otd.

What are you going to use it for?

If you are looking for a tactical shotgun then the 981 might fit the bill. I believe it is the model with only a bead and the 982 has the ghost rings. I don't know what they sell for there but I found one here that I plan to pick up for $175 NIB. Another option is a used gun. Again I don't know the market there but here one can find used wingmasters in the $200 range.

I'm with GRIZZ22.
My NEF 12 ga. Pardner Pump is better built than my 870 Express Magnum. And almost 1/3 less price. It is a hell-for-stout pump and shoots great.
Also, the stock recoil pad is pretty doggone good too. Surprised me how well it works.

The guys advising "used" as a way to go have some merit too. One of the shotgun gurus here once said "A used shotgun is just a new shotgun that's already broken in". Or something to that effect.:)

I regularly find used, finish worn but perfectly functional Mossberg 500A 12-gauge pumpguns for under $150 out the door, and often not much more than $120. Sure, they may have some scuffs and the stock is dinged up but for cheap, easy to maintain, and matching what you already have, can't beat it.

I think Dick's have the Maverick 88's around here for about $200.

Gunbroker or other online auction sight's would be another place I would check. The bad thing about that is you would have to add shipping and FFL charges.

Bud's also have them online for right around $200 shipped. You would still have to pay your FFL charges though.

I also seen on bud's that they have a pump Norinco, New England pardner, and Single shot Rossi's for under $200 too. I would still probably go with a Maverick though.

I'm not saying Bud's is the way to go but that's just where I looked online.

Walmart prices are cheap

You can get a reliable new shotgun there for that price: The Maverick is $187.00. The pardner pump is $199.00. Not bad for a new gun that is cheap and reliable with a warranty . The pardner pump can be ordered in my home town super Walmart from their catalog. A friend of mine has one and is quite happy with it.

I wouldn't go as far as that but time will tell. The Pardner is not as smooth but that may take some braeking in.

I always wondered what the life of a shotgun was and read some guy (a trap and skeet shooter) was sending his 870 in for a rebuild after 500,000 rounds. I doubt many of us shoot that many shotgun rounds in a lifetime unless we are really in to trap and skeet.

i also say the h and r pardner is better then a 870 express, its a very reliable gun, buy one, they even put nice wood on the guns.

Yeah, I have both and the side by side comparison favors the NEF. Shocking really, because I love my 870 and had a definite preference for the Remington shotguns. Still want a Wingmaster.;)

Okay, here's a quick, off the top of my head rundown of the comparison:

Thicker receiver on the NEF.
NEF is already drilled and tapped for scope. 870 not...
Stock Pardner's mag tube is 5+1, the stock 870's is 4+1.
NEF's recoil pad is more recoil absorbent than the 870's.
NEF has a better, deeper Park job (on mine anyway).
NEF comes sling ready, my 870 did not.
NEF's safety does not have that incredibly STUPID "J-Lock" found on the 870.

The one thing that the 870 had that the NEF didn't have is the "Flex Tab" Carrier.

I better shut up now. I've about talked myself into getting another one.:)

I got a Maverick 88 a few months ago from walmart and have put around 400 shells through it with no problems at all. It's nice to have an inexpensive gun that you don't mind if it gets a little scratched up.

I have a maverick 88 and would reccomend it w/o reservation. I picked up the 20" 8 shot security for $200 and have put several hundred trouble free rounds thorugh it.

My father-in-law bought his GF a NEF 20ga youth shotty for HD. She is not a gun person at all but she LOVES her shotgun! IIRC it was ~$190 OTD at dicks or gander mtn on sale.
