What's the best bolt action .22 with iron sights for under $500?

I'm thinking of a Savage MkII FVT, it's about $450.

And BTW, I'll most likely put a scope on it some time.

I would go with the savage, but the CZ 452 is a good choice too. To me, the savage gets more for the money, but the CZ has a nice stock, and a classier look. Accuracy is about the same, and with the savage you get the accurtrigger...(the CZs is pretty nice too)

Savage MKII-BV is the bomb, they are only $275 or so I think (from Walmart). The FV version is cheaper, but the synthetic stock feels cheap. CZ452 is really popular, slightly cheaper but not as accurate.

The CZ by a mile. I like the Savage Mark II, but it doesn't drip quality like the CZ and it would be a minority that said it is more accurate.

PB, the manual tells you how to put it on, so I would say yes it is removable. I pick up a mark II G on Friday, I'm a sucker for a wood stock. Haven't shot it yet just skimmed through the manual and wiped it down. Fit and finish look good to my untrained eye.

dont forget a finnish lion, a biathlon basic, or a izmash target shooter, and also a nice cmp rifle; kimber, or m12, or mossberg will all do it, and if you can get any of the old winchester or remmy target rifles for that money, that would be good, or a used Annie. Also look for a marlin 7000, 2000, or 981ts, and the highly underrated marlin 880 sq. but for new, the CZ and the Savage , plus a new kimber or Thompson/center would have to be on the top of the list, that are north american made, and rather easy to get.
