Cheaper Than Dirt

If their price is the best I will buy from them. As for the ammo a few years ago it was supply and demand. Whenever someone else had 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 it would disappear in a day or so. I have no problems with a company raising prices to meet market demand.

They're not that cheap

I live just 15 minutes north of McKinney, TX, where Cheaper than Dirt--Guns!! is located. Yes, it is a totally separate company from Cheaper than Dirt. Now, selection, wow, if you have never been inside a really, really well stocked gun store, it is wall to wall to wall to wall guns. Couple hundred long guns and at least double that of handguns. But, you pay for that selection, and I have found you can fairly easily beat their price by just doing some shopping around, and their ammo prices aren't that great either. About the only thing I still buy from them are accessories.

Capitalism is built in greed (and that's not really a bad thing)
Sorry, have to disagree with you there. Capitalism is not built in greed. Capitalism is the opportunity to buy and sell at will whatever you posses. You can sell for whatever you want and pay whatever you want. Supply and demand is only one aspect of every economy, not just capitalism. But I think what you meant was that capitalism tends to fuel peoples' greed. But so does socialism and every other economic practice out there. Someone is always getting richer off someone else.

As for CTD, I order occasionally from them, but find mostof the crap they have is just that, crap.

Did you push for them to make it right? There's no way they can make you keep it if it's incorrect. I would have just kept calling, getting "nos," hanging up, and calling back as if it were my first call until someone agreed to exchange it for the right thing.

I agree though, that sucks, and I wouldn't purchase from them after that.

Years ago, my band had a gig and we wanted to upgrade our personal PA when it became clear that the venue wasn't providing. We found one blemished from a company, and paid a high dollar to have it shipped basically overnight, so that it'd definitely be there the week later when we needed it. It never showed, we kept getting told to wait another day, and then the day before we played, I called to demand an explanation. They said, "oh, seems we sold out (meaning the ONE blemished one they had sold), sorry." So, no explanation until the day before, no warning despite it obviously being urgent, and no offer to make it right. We were, of course, refunded, but the money wasn't the issue. We were permitted to order something they didn't have in stock as urgent and then weren't told that we'd need to find another option until the day before.

I haven't ordered anything from them since, except for ridiculous deals (like when they mispriced 10-packs of strings for $3.99 rather than $39.99).
Ash,
I just had the same thing happen to me when I ordered an M&P 9 and an M&P45c from Express Police Supply. Ordered on Friday, sent my credentials after the order. On Monday, my FFL faxed his license, then Tuesday ordered showed not yet shipped. I called and they said that it should process that day. On Thursday, still not shipped. I called and they said, 'oh yeah, we are out of those and won't have them for at least a month'. I thought that was lazy, shady, or something, and cancelled the order.

I didn't realize it was a separate company. I shop at that store occasionally. I do find they have the best ammo prices, generally, and have bought guns from them when I found them to have the best price.
Well, I should correct that, I have ordered guns from the website and had them delivered to that store-I thought it was all the same. I don't really go for the mil surp stuff, so I don't really have an opinion on their selection there.

When I do a search I searh for the item including tax, and shipping, like buy.com or several others, nextag, etc. I agree that sometimes the assorted charges are more than the "come on" price of what you're buying, like a ten dollar part with 12 dollar shipping and handeling costs, I just won't use any site that does that. Even on ebay I search for item including tax and shipping, otherwise you are going to get screwed.

Capitalism is built in greed (and that's not really a bad thing). It's simple economics. In a capitalist society price is a function of supply over demand. A "shortage" by definition is a decreased supply, so if demand remains the same (or worse, increases), price will go up in turn. It's the way a market works.

"Rationing" and sharing to make sure everyone gets their fair share is actually more of a communist idea.

At the height of the component shortage a fellow was complaining about primers on Gunbroker listed for $100 plus (and people were bidding). I posted that if I decided to sell any primers I would get as much as I could, but if a friend needed some I would gladly give them to him. He responded he would like to find me in the desert in need of water.

Some people need irony glasses.
