Cheapest 50 BMG

Another vote for bohica. I'm a happy customer, about 25 rounds through mine (generally 3-5 a few times a year). Particularly if you already have an AR lower, you're set with the Bohica upper, a .50 rated scope (Nightforce is the cheapest "good" one I'm aware of), and ammo and you're set. Chris is a great guy to deal with, but he has a tendency to underestimate wait times.

Dude you are the man, I cannot even in my fantasies consider Nightforce in the "cheapest" scope category, LOL.
Those things cost more than the upper.

But you can get a Bushnell Elite for under $200 that has some positive reviews for use on the .50. Now that is my idea of cheap..........uh I mean, value priced.:)

You can get a Barrett Model 99 for MSRP of about $4k, and IIRC it is (in the .416 round at least) the most accurate Barrett made, However you will have to forgo the box magazine.

I agree with Acera, there are several good .50cal rated scopes, the Bushnell 4200 and Tasco SS are alright (not nearly as nice as a NF, but not nearly the cost either). :)

Cheap and 50 BMG.

Mutually exclusive.
This man knows not of what he speaks;

Nope, he does not. It is just his perception that they all are expensive rifles, and that you can't shoot it economically.

They might be out of some budgets, but that does not mean that a sizable portion of the shooting community could not afford them if they wanted to. I understand that most of the myths about them are the product of ignorance among non-50 shooters. (I guess he is a non 50 owner. I don't get the impression that he is a part of that elitist group who don't like the little people who don't have a minimum of 10 large in their guns, kinda like the folks over at the FCSA)

You can find .50 ammo for $2 each, (try that with anything with Weatherby in the name). Heck, 5.56 SS109 was just recently $1 each on line! It is not that hard to get into the sport with a rifle, optic, cleaning kit, and rounds for under $2K.

Most of my buddies have $2K wrapped up in at least one of thier ARs, or tactical style bolt guns. So I don't consider it that outrageous a price point. Get into sporting clays, skeet, or trap and you can easily end up with twice that in an good O/U set up. My 50 BMG is far from the most expensive gun I own.

Extremely Pro Gun, where you at in Texas?? I might be able to direct you to some folks with the big rifle, so you can experience it for yourself, and dispel some of the myths about this most understood round.

Here is another budget .50 to look at for about $1,650

The word 'cheap' and '.50 BMG' don't go together.
"...You can find .50 ammo for $2 each..." Where, what make and how regularly? Midway, granted not the least expensive supplier, wants $59.99 per 20 for Argentine 706 grain milsurp until 30 June. $69.99 per 20 after, if they have it. Hornady match ammo runs $57.99 per 10.
$2 a shot for loaded .50 BMG ammo is nonsense. .50 cal bullets cost more than that.

I misspoke RE NightForce: What that post should have read was that a lot of guys on the Bohica forums have been satisfied with the Barska Tactical model for ~200 shipped. I know, big difference; sorry, it's been a long day. For mine, I cried once and went Leupold. I might have gone lower in price/quality if I did it all over again. I was aware of a lot of popular scopes that could have been mounted, but it was hard to find reviews and ratings specifically for reliability/performance with the recoil of the .50.

There are BOHICA .50 BMG uppers with a "buy it now" price of $1295 on Gunbroker right now.
Ammunition To Go has 100 round packs of .50 BMG for $2.60 a round in stock.

I knew you were joking, I remember that ad from some of the Brady campaign literature where the thought it legit. I just don't think the other guy was.

Sunray I bought about 500 rounds of Talon for $1.80 each last summer and into this spring.

Ammo to go has it today for $2.60 like Animal Mother said. It's out there, but you have to expend the effort to find it.

I will take that comment as a sign of your ignorance, and not a personal attack on me.
