Who offers the cheapest .22LR AR-15 Upper Assembly ? I built an AR-10 for my dad, and he decided he wanted something with less kick to familiarize himself with the AR platform. He's had a couple of major surgeries, so him putting up with extended periods of .308W recoil isn't practical.

I bought a DoubleStar AR-15 lower a couple of weeks ago at the Montgomery gun show, and I've finished assembling it, with the exception of an upper assembly.

Honestly, I'm lazy, so I'd like to purchase the cheapest complete .22LR AR-15upper assembly possible.

I don't want to fool with a Ceiner kit, and I don't want to invest a lot in an expensive upper assembly. Pops just needs something low recoil to get used to the feel and operation of the AR platform, before he goes to the .308.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I got a Model 1 Sales upper, a 16" heavy barrel A2-style carbine, for $475. It's been great. Works with any ammo I feed it, including the cheapest bulk stuff -- which is a damn good thing, since it's a lot of fun. It's easy to plow through a brick in no time flat.:)

They have any imaginable configuration; for something more AR-10-like than a CAR, you could even get a fluted 20" varmint upper for $570 , or just a 20" HBAR for $495.

Mine was shipped quickly, not a 6-8 week turnaround like I've heard with some others. It probably depends on whether they have parts in stock.

sometimes, they have trouble getting the parts though. call them, and see if the model yo want is in stock. if it isn't look at Spikes Tactical. they have about a 6 week wait, but it gets there within that. i just ordered mine. i'll if the promises hold true....

When I was looking around, it seemed that Spike's wants about 100 bucks more for the same thing. But it's all on the web, including prices. See for yourself.

hey AB, does that kit you got have a ceiner kit in it? or does it have a proprietary bolt/carrier of some sort?

it's hard for me to feel comfortable with a company who puts a 22lr barrel with grenade cut-out on an A2 receiver and calls it an M4 :scrutiny:

If I understand correctly, this particular upper is supposed to be a trainer for an AR-10. That would suggest a heavier, longer rifle.

But maybe I'm wrong.

My guess is this, though. Once you get the thing, from whatever vendor, if it's set up how you like it, it will get shot a lot more than the actual AR-10.:)

The things are fun.

It has a Ciener bolt, NOT the Ciener kit. See Model 1's site; they sell the bolt separately if you want it for your own build. The barrel is chambered for .22LR, turned down on the chamber end to fit with the bolt, has 1:12" twist, and has no gas port. They also sell the barrel separately; there's a picture you can see if you want to see how it works.

WRT the "A2 M4", they will assemble any combo of barrel and receiver you want. It's made to order. Doesn't reflect on the company one way or another; they'll sell whatever someone buys.:)

Was that the Montgomery Alabama show? I was there if it was. :)

Yup, Montgomery Alabama Shriners Temple show.

I bought the $100 complete(but no buttstock) DoubleStar lower that a guy had. He was there on Saturday and then left after selling out in 2 hours. He had quite a few black rifle parts and every last bit of it sold.

Armed Bear understood exactly what I was getting at with wanting a "AR-10 trainer" upper. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and links. The old man's getting the .22LR AR15 for an early Christmas present. Ironically, my mom's never been crazy about shooting any rifle other than his .22 Bolt Mossberg. Since I bought him the AR-10, however, she's been more than a little curious to try it out, I wish I lived close enough to see it in person.

I appreciate all the other responses too. It will be the beginning of November before I order the upper, so if anyone else wants to contribute to thread that is also appreciated.
