In July I'm going to need to get about 3,000 rounds, and I really don't feel like paying 1200 dollars JUST for the ammo I need.

Also, does the cheaper ammo shoot crappier? I'll be shooting from anywhere from 50-500yards

Why such a fast buildup? Those nasty neighbors have 2500 rounds? (just kidding)
At that amount, call up Hunting Shack Munitions. They are bound to get you a discount at that amount. That or Georgia Arms. Decent ammunition, not terrible accuracy. However, I am about to be deluged with "well, reloaded ammo can be dangerous" und so weiter... Ive never had an issue, so there you are.:)

If it's for use in an AR-15, I'd reccomend buying a few small boxes first to make sure your gun likes it.

Hate to blow $1,000 on some ammunition your gun won't reliably shoot.

Question: What twist rate?

That would be the starting place for ammo selection for me.

Edit:

The WWB Q3131A is good stuff, and it seems to be available again. I've seen it at Gander Mountain. I'm not sure if it's available in bulk online though. It shoots decent in a 1-9 barrel.

Sounds like he's heading to Gunsite or similar for some training.

Aoshi,

Ask around at your local dealers to see if they can get you a volume discount. Their price might beat your best internet price plus shipping.

Got a friend who needs 3,000 rounds? Buy together.

gcpd's right, I'm heading over to moyack, NC for a little rifle training before I head back to boot camp, I was kicked out the first time for some medical crap, and im working damned hard to get lance corporal out of basic to make up for it.
