So I'm taking gun pics this morning and thought this would be a good opportunity to show off my new K31. I haven't even gotten a chance to fire it yet but I was pretty pleased with the cosmetic condition when it arrived so I don't anticipate anything too disappointing at the range. I just need a sling for it and maybe a good scope... we'll see.

clicky clicky.

I also bought enough GP11 ammo and stripper clips to kill several hundred invading fascists, or just have hours of expensive fun at the range.

oh hey, can anyone tell me how to figure out how old the rifle is?

Have you checked under the butt plate for the original soldier's name and home address?

Nice rifle!

No idea how to date one.

Sweet rifle, the bluing looks real nice still too...I actually have a similar year K31, I don't get to shoot it quite as much as I like to though :(

You are most likely in for a real treat. I have two, one with a birch stock and one with a walnut stock, and each is spooky accurate. I didn't even have to change the sight setting on either but I only use GP-11 ammo.

Best of luck with your new, old, gun. I hope yours shoots as well as mine.

No, you don't need a scope at all. K31 is accurate enougth to shoot with iron sight.
Here in Switzerland we shoot K31 at 300 meters with iron sight because optical sight are not allowed at municipal shooting ranges.
Just train how to shoot with open sight and you'll happy with it.

Now you need to buy some brass and start reloading cuz its cheaper in the long run, it uses the .308 bullet same as the 30.06 so its easy to find. I use 150 gr FMJ for my K31 and they work great for accuracy, the gp11 ammo is good stuff but it has the 2 hole primer pocket inside and more of a hassle to reload. Col Tapioca is very correct about the accuracy with open sights, I shoot mine alongside my A3 Springfield at 200 meters for comparison and they are so close together. FWIW

Awesome rifle! Mine was made in 1942, and is another of those "spooky accurate" old rifles. GP11 is (much) more accurate than Wolf (Prvi Partisan in Wolf boxes), but the Wolf is Boxer primed so it's easier to reload.
