Looked to me like first guy through the door was ok, guys two and three tried to go through at the same time causing a bind, guy four went in guns a-blazin' before even entering the apartment.

And everyone else is left goin, "um...ok....***?"

Only so many people can fit through a door at one time.
A little better planning next time would be a good idea

I think the American way works better.

Man is shooting people from balcony.

People shoot man on balcony.

Man is no longer shooting people from balcony.

What the heck? Judging from the amount of banging going on while everyone was walking in, I can only guess that was intentional, to try and make the other guy take cover while everyone else goes in. Hopefully they were using blanks for that purpose. Russian flashbang?

I think Ryan's theory is closer to what happened. All the others going through the door didn't seem at all surprised that the shooting started and continued. Seems like it was part of the entry plan. If they were using blanks as a means to get the people inside to panic and take cover, it might work. Weird, but, who knows? They operate under different rules than entry teams over here.

...guys two and three tried to go through at the same time causing a bind...
Supposedly this happen in the Israeli Entebbe raid in 1976. During the rehearsal the commandos were told they weren’t getting into the buildings fast enough. During the real raid two commandos try to be first through the same door and get stuck. Their buddies behind them push them through and run over their backs. Not the time to stand around trying to figure out what to do.

So... Moe got through the door first guns a blazin', only to be followed by Larry and Curly.

Moe: C'mon, what's the holdup numbskulls!

Larry: Oh dear...

Curley: Nyet, nyet, nyet! Er, I mean Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck!

Huh. It showed what looked like a pump action scattergun in the apartment. Is that his "sniper rifle"?

Why is anyone who shoots from an elevated position automatically called a sniper?

This looked like a local team, not OMON. Law enforcement in Russia is a lot less professional on the local level than here.

Did anybody wonder about using a sledge hammer to beat on a door that opens OUT? There are a number of quicker ways to make a dynamic entry.

The building had been evacuated, as well. It appears that they learned something in Chechyna, after all.

FYI, the Russians have their own flash-bang grenades. They tend to be more powerful than ours, as well.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised at the performance, or want it to be better. The Russians are no friends of ours. If the lower tiers operate sloppily, then we can expect their military to be the same. That's to our advantage.

Methinks that if he was firing what looked to be a short-barreled AK74 into the ceiling, there'd be a bit more feedback--i.e. his coworkers freaking out, rubble and dust from the roof, people dying in the apartment above, etc.

Probably blanks.

I would say that Ivan missed the day of "Making Dynamic Entry" class where they discussed indexing your trigger finger instead of putting it on the trigger. If I had been the guy in front of him I would've slapped his dumba@@ upside his head after we had the tango down or in cuffs.
