I'm in Denver, and have been looking around. I went over to Boulder on Friday - it looks nice. I will be meeting with some faculty on Monday to talk about their law school.

I also am just astounded at how many outdoor-sports stores there are here. I've been in more than one Gander Mountain, a Sportsman's Warehouse, a Bass Pro (but I think there is more than one), and a Dick's Sporting goods. Good lord... back at home all I've got is a Bass Pro that I don't really like and if I want to make the drive north to Palm Beach, there is a Gander Mountain that just opened.

I also was in the Wheat Ridge area today and stopped in "The Silver Bullet" gun store and range just hoping to pick up a book on CO gun laws. They claim it doesn't exist.

Anyways, a few questions:

My primary goals while here are to:

A) Figure out if I'm really interested in UC Boulder Law.
B) Figure out where I'd live if I went to UC Boulder Law.
C) Investigate the legal market out in Denver as it's where I'd likely practice if I went to law school here

and

D) Figure out where I'd live after I graduate.

Today is Sunday, there won't be much to do on A-C today... so I was thinking of working on D a little bit.

What are the nice areas/neighborhoods that are close to downtown Denver, without actually being legally in Denver city or county?

By nice, I mean - upscale.... relatively low crime... populated by working professionals... etc.

Also, any good gun stores I should check out while here just for fun?

Monday and Tuesday I have events scheduled at the school, but those events won't take up the full day.

Also, somebody recently mentioned that the Denver AWB was neutered - could somebody elaborate?

To be honest, I wasn't fair in my listing of A-D... I'm looking for other things too, such as culture, livability, singles scene, etc. etc.

Lastly, I'm staying in the Denver Tech Center area. If anybody is nearby and wants to get together for some coffee or a beer - PM me. :)

I think you will like colorado as it is so much diffefrent from where you are from. Not that it is bad just different.
lots of gun shops, pawn shops, gun shows to buy from. Boulder has a very nice gun club but the wait to get in is long.

Do not know much about denver and the current laws but its a big state and many more areas to live in than denver thats not to far from boulder I would think.

Boulder is a beautiful city. However it's tree-hugging, phony, trust fund hippy land. I most certainly would not say the word gun anywhere on or near the CU campus.

Just a personal opinion. I actually plan to move back to Colorado and go to CU Boulder, but not entirely by choice.

Denver Tech Center is pretty nice. That whole area, Centennial, Highlands Ranch.

I like The Firing Line, which is on or around I-225 and Potamac I think. The silver bullet is nice but I just go there to shoot. Did buy a dentist pick from them.

The Wheat Ridge area would be a really nice place too. I graduated from HS @ Wheat Ridge =).

I'd be down for beers but i've been exiled to Arkansas for a while.

Also, don't live anywhere near that Firing Line I was talking about. Aurora, Montbello, Five Points downtown, Sheriden, downtown in general. Anywhere on Federal either. Almost all of Federal Blvd and Colfax Blvd are bad too. Intersection of Federal and Colfax of course being really bad.

First, hope you enjoy your stay here.

Boulder is Colorado's liberal bastion. I avoid Denver and Boulder like the plague myself. Boulder has a fine gun club from what I hear, but I won't be visiting it.

Personally, I'd be damned if I would give money to CU because of Ward Churchhill. Google him, and have a barf bag ready. Surely there must be another good law school here in our fine state.

ah the Republic of Boulder aka Obamaland. I would never live there ever, but a visit every once and a while is ok. I say if it is just short term and for school that you will be fine living there. Me personally I will continue to live in glorious Fort Collins, where at CSU(GO RAMS) I can carry a gun to class on a daily basis. Check this out for info on Colorado laws http://www.rmgo.org/ you might want to research the local laws of Boulder some more as well, since they are probably more restrictive like Denver.

Agree with Birddog, stay out of Denver and Boulder. The Front Range is nice. The SW part of the burbs is great and where we live. Also avoid going anywhere south of the 470/25. The traffic is a nightmare.

Good luck with your search.

Kinda depends on your budget and whether you like more Urban, suburban or rural living.

Two of the fastest growing Denver suburbs are Parker and Castle Rock. Both very affluent communities with a heavily conservative and professional population. I grew up in Parker and currently work in Castle Rock (though I live 20 miles further East in Elbert county). In either town, you can buy a big house on a small lot, a small house on a large lot and anything in between. In other words, there's a decent mix of suburban and rural living throughout Douglas county.

If you want more urban, Littleton is a nice town. Lakewood has nice areas as well. As for true city living, though, you're not going to find a gun-friendly area.

Cheese;

(Fieldsian voice) Ahhh yes, Boulder! Boulder is like the elephant you know. It's interesting to look at, but I wouldn't want to live there.
However, I did for a while. Hadn't been in town & out of the car for 5 minutes before I was asked if I wanted to buy drugs. It was an interesting experience & then I went back to Wyoming.

Laramie has a law school, don't know if it meets your requirements though. I also seem to recall the vet school student body arising en masse upon an occasion that a certain visiting football team was foolish enough to parade its ram in front of them. They proceeded to demonstrate their vetrinarial prowess in converting the animal to whatever no-longer-rams are known as. It was an interesting afternoon.

Ward... Churchilll.... How could I have forgotten about him. Thank you birddog for reminding me of him. Watch the episode of South Park called "Die, Hippie, Die". The college know-it-all hippies, they're all his fault.

You should have started this thread earlier! PTK (forumite) and I put a whole bunch of lead downrange up in the mountains yesterday!

Anyway, I'm in Arvada, which is a nice suburb West of Denver nearer the mountains. I would recommend checking the area out as it is right on I-70, so you can get downtown very quickly. I utilize the "park & ride" to get downtown to school every day, using the free unlimited bus pass that I received with tuition.

I also spent some time at CU Boulder before transferring to the Downtown UC-Denver campus, which I enjoy much better. Boulder was once quite accurately described as being "Twenty-five square miles surrounded by reality". ;)

I'd also recommend checking out the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners website. Their FAQ page should answer most, if not all of your questions.

Monday and Wednesday after 5, and Tuesday after 4 I'll be free and downtown. PM me if you want to grab a beer!

P.S. We make more beer than any other state in the country, and it's almost all great stuff. That's 50% of the reason I moved here a year ago. :) We could visit one of the brewery's tasting rooms in downtown too.

I couldn't have put it better :D
I spent 9 years in Longmont. We referred to Boulder as Granola. You know... Fruits, Nut's, and Flakes. Overall, that part of the country is one of the most absolutely outstanding areas you can live in if you enjoy the outdoors at all. I can't speak of the Legal opportunities, I'm an engineer by trade.

.cheese.,

If you'd like, I could put you in contact with a gentleman who recently graduated from CU's law program. He was the President of the CU branch of the Student's for Concealed Carry on Campus organization while I was there, so he may be a good resource.

Come check out Golden - it's gorgeous, ~40 min. from Boulder, and relatively gun-friendly. I open carry my rifles/pistols constantly and all I get here inside the city is a smile and wave from police.

The Denver/Front Range area is one of the nation's best. As for gun stores: Look up Green Mountain Guns if you get the chance.

Burn up some gas and hit the western slope. It is the home of the real Co. gun culture.

I go to school in Golden, and highly recommend the town. It's got a small town feel, but anything and everything is 20 min. away.
