Am considering a chest rig for my RIA 1911, open carry. Saw the prices and just about choked........ I don't think I've ever bought a holster that was over $50. Anyone have any ideas on less expensive ones?

What kind of chest holster are you thinking?

eBay has a bunch of GI "Tanker" type copies under your price range.

I have a number of the El Paso Saddlery Tankers, and while they are about double and a bit of what you want to spend, they are well made and I think worth the extra bucks.

I have one of the cheaper Tanker copies and the difference is pretty obvious. I also have one of the original GI issue Tankers, and its about even with El Paso's holster.

I didn't know they were called Tanker holsters. Thanks that opens up my search quite a bit.

I just checked on Etsy and there's a couple of leather workers I've done business before. They have tanker (sling) holsters for right around my price range.

I'm not aware of anything anywhere near $50.

But this is what I use when I want to chest carry and keep it on the down low and not draw attention. I've carried various guns while hiking and doing other outdoors stuff in one of these for a few years now and no one suspected I was carrying. If you watch the video and carry use it the way they suggest it is very fast to deploy.

Not what I had in mind besides I already bought what I wanted, see the post above yours.

I recently bought a Triple K 602 sholder holster for my Uberti 1858 New Model Army and it is a very comfortable holster. Even though it is an 8 in bbl I can wear it and drive my car without feeling the gun or holster. I like sholder holsters for hunting especially from a tree stand as both hands are free and the gun stays out of the weather.

Glad someone bumped this thread when I was looking. I've thought about a subtle chest pack like this for a long time. Thought I might have to make one myself.

Alien gear chest rigs are relatively cheap but I don’t recall just how much.

OP has already bought a holster, but for future reference, there is a company called At The Front (.com) that makes repro WWII gear for reenactors. They sell an Asian import tanker holster for those on a budget. Not sure of the quality of that model, but everything else I've bought from them ha been top notch. I use their (USA made) USGI loop sling on my M1 for Service Rifle competition, and I wear one of the wool hats daily all winter long. I also use some of their repro web gear occasionally, too.

I believe El Paso, or one of their nearby competitors, actually made the originals during the war.
