Have any folks had problems declaring a lawfully encased handgun at either Midway or O'Hare? I may have to go to the Chicago area for business and want to take my handgun up there for hotel protection. It appears Chicago does allow non residents 24 hours in transit to get in and out with lawful firearms from my reading. This would give me time to get somewhere outside Chicago city limits for hotel stay like a suburb. I wouldn't have a problem getting my baggage. It is the going back to the airport and declaring. Of course I plan on transporting the handgun in a locked case, unloaded, etc. Any hassles at either of these two airports? Illinois law seems to allow non residents with home state pistol licenses to possess firearms that are cased and unloaded when transporting. I will of course use my airline approved locked case whether in the rental car or train when in Illinois. Thanks.

I've been through O'Hare several times with a handgun and no issues whatsoever.

Leave your suitcase at the airport.

Google Revell vs. Port Authority of NY and NJ. SCOTUS ruled if you take possession of your suitcase, even just for overnight, you have NO FOPA protection.
