Chicago Bears defense tackle faces gun charges

He needs to be punished.

Tank could be in jail hopefully by Friday.

For what ???

He's an Arizona Resident, so the FOID card law/requirement does not apply to him. Non-residents are not allowed to obtain FOID cards. The charges against him have been dropped. You would think the investigators would check into something as silly as his residency status before swearing out a warrant in front of a judge. I have not seen nor heard what was in the warrant but I bet if Mr. Johnson has a sharp attorney, he might be able to turn the tables on the investigators. (And to clarify there is no such thing as gun registration in Illinios, in the City of Chicago, yes, but not in Gurnee where Mr. Johnson lives.)

The issue with the dogs. I did not hear of any animal mistreatment or cruelty charges against Mr. Johnson. While I think that his treatment of his pets is at best stupid, he was not charged with any crime, meaning to me that the investigators did not find sufficient evidence of any crime involving the dogs.

Having loaded guns in the house ??? with kids present ??? I've got loaded guns and kids in my house. Mine are properly stored. I heard no mention as to where/how the guns were stored in Mr Johnson's house. I also have a bathtub, cleaning chimicals, a stove, flammable liquids, bicycles and a dog. The neighbors have a pool. Any of those things are far more likely (based on data from the CDC) to harm/kill my kids then the guns. As an aside, when I grew up loaded guns were kept just inside the back door. Should my parents be arrested ???

He is not a suspect the murder of his friend/bodyguard. While his decision to go out at 3am is questionable, it's not illegal. He is allowed to have life outside of football. (I seem to recall MJ gambling in Atlantic City before a playoff game, and there's still that silly concept of freedom). He did go to a place that had a special "VIP" lounge so that he could have some sembalance of privacy. While there his friend was killed, I have yet to hear anything about the exact circumstances and if they even have a suspect.

Not choosing friends wisely ??? One of my best friends from High School has been in and out of jail for variety of drug and other charges. So should I be arrested because he's screwed up his life ???

Oh, he is being punished. Didn't play last week (not sure if he got a game check) and his is suspended from this weeks' game (he will not get a a game check or 1/16 of his salary), for "conduct detrimental to the team".

If you got into "legal" trouble do you know of any other employer (other then the military) that could dock you for pay for something that happened outside of work ???

"Tecumseh I know you got a DUI but you've been making to work without fail and doing a good job, but your conduct was embarrassing to the company so we're docking you 3 weeks pay."

While Mr. Johnson is not the poster child we as gun owners would like, nor would he have made a good test case. He still has rights and one of those is due process. The charges against him have been dropped, because he has not committed a crime. While he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, being dumb is not illegal, even here in Illinois.

Anyone see the latest? ESPN.com reports that Johnson's home contained, get this, 550 rounds of ammunition!

Ho-wee, 550 rounds. He must have gotten a brick of .22 from Wal-Mart.

Just wondering out loud if Tank J. was at the FBI training facility with the other "average citizens" (read: the so-called "elite")?

If I recall the fist fight at the FBI range was between two of the OL. Kreutz and Miller. The FBI described that they have "relationships" with all of the pro teams in Chicago..so I wouldn't be surprised in Johnson was one of the participants in the range activities.

Regardless...the evidence coming out of this whole incident points to Posey as the bad guy...and Johnson as a loyal and foolish friend.
