Thought he was talking about possession of ammunition; my mistake.

@Deanimator and Bix-

Wow... I knew Chicago (and several of the suburbs) banned handguns and "assault rifles," but I didn't realize they had full-scale registration of all firearms in the city. Thanks for the clarification.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about Chicago gun laws, especially by people living in Chicago.

I've been out of Apartheid Chicago since '86. For a while, my mother was trying to get me to move back. Needless to say, I was profoundly disinterested. My aunt's boyfriend is a retired Deputy Commander in the Chicago PD. Somehow, he got it into his head that all I needed to do in order to move to Chicago with my handguns was to register them. I told him that NO new handgun registrations were permitted, and that if he didn't believe me, to check on it downtown. Lo and behold, he discovered that that was exactly the case.

Chicago's going to lose the suits against it, wasting millions of dollars in the process. The odds are that Daley will try to ignore the rulings, costing millions more in judgements, and probably a few cops' homes and their kids' college funds.

And what's worse, "Chicago's Finest" will look at you like you're some sort of whipped sissy when you tell them WHY you cannot carry. Until thirteen years ago, and yes, statutes having passed, I broke several local laws for quite a few years by keeping a loaded handgun in my then Chicago home. It was a misdemeanor, then. I understand it is a felony, now. Avoid the FOID!

Come and take them.
