My youngest

With his Daisy..... Pretty good, he has learned a little about Kentucky windage etc.

Ben with his Springfield 22 single bolt and a BSA red dot. Little long but he can shoot it pretty good. I let him shoot those Aquillas primer loads mostly.

My 10 year old with his little 243 and the east Texas bench rest. Deadly, and can hit MOdead at 300 pretty easy.

My first gun was a Marlin 39, when I was about 7-8 years old. The Daisy followed a couple of years later.

Buy the kid a Red Ryder and a Crickett.

The Red Ryder will teach the basics and gun handling, when ready then grab the Cricket. Being a real gun owner should be a proud moment for the little one regardless.

I have two Red Ryders, one my dad bought me for my 10th birthday. The other one my mom got for her birthday 30 some years ago. Its a "girl" model. Has some fancy looking marbled plastic stock, neutral color (not black) and some pin striping. I had to make a run to the hardware store to get a replacement bolt for the action but its now working A+. They both get used regularly and will be handed down to the kids....mine to my son, my moms to my little girl.

They already have Crickets.....
