I scored 25lbs of chilled lead shot from my work.......they were using it as a door stop:banghead: It just happened to walk out the door with me when I left. I have no idea how it made it in to my car:evil:

However, will the chilled lead shot be OK to use for casting. I have about 30lbs of soft plumber lead already. Maybe I could mix the two together, maybe I wont need to. I figured I would ask the pros first........what do you guys think?

I'm not gonna comment on how you aquired it.

I haven't tried it yet, but from what I've read it contains too much arsenic to cast well. However, it is excellent for hardening soft lead (mostly because of that arsenic.) Try mixing it, I dunno, one part of shot with 3 or 4 parts of soft lead.

It still might not cast well because it contains no tin at all.

Ive used it to cast keith type hollow points and gotten good expansion between 1,000/1,100 fps. It flows well and does not seem prone to shatter on impact.

Chilled lead shot is too hard for casting round balls ...but I`ve used it for casting some 45/70 bullets and it worked out fine for those .

This is The High Road, and yet in your original post you allude to the fact you stole it from your employer. That was like stealing fifty bucks from the cash drawer. Why not go back to work and do the honest thing? I am a businessman myself and I have a hard time understanding whay my employees think that anything not nailed down is fair game for them to walk off with.

Excuse me? You steal from your employer and and have the nerve to brag about it on this forum?:barf::fire::cuss:

First off, shame on you guys for casting self riotous judgment on me. Did I say that I stole it? How do you know that I am not embellishing the situation? Perhaps my employer knows I have the lead? Perhaps I am the employer? The fact is...........you know nothing about me or where I work to cast judgement. But hey, thanks for the advice on the lead shot.

We don't know you or your situation. We only know what you wrote. You clearly meant to leave the impression that the shot was removed from your place of employment without permission of it's owner (otherwise, why the juvenile comment about walking out the door without your knowledge, followed by the "evil" smiley). If any of us had the impression you stole the shot it's because you intended it that way. You wrote the words, kid. And I used the word 'kid' on purpose; that's how you're acting when you get self-righteous.

Before you cast with it, consider this.

You can get $50 easy with 25 lbs of shot. And on ebay, the going rate for 50 lbs of wheel weights is $50.

So sell the 25lbs and get back 50lbs of lead.

(I'm staying out of the theft argument)

Is this guy for real? He states that he "scored" a bag of shot, walked right out the door and was surprised he made it to his car..... In other words; "stole" a bag of shot. ( hey G4, if you didn't, please enlighten us. Are you the employer? You asked to take it?? If so, why would you lead us to believe right off, that you stole it?
Then, you want to flip this and take offense to the members of the High Road that simply read your post and what you have implied..... Wow..... :barf:
Stealing is one thing of coarse, but being proud of it and publicly boasting about it makes me think you're the type that shouldn't even be involved with firearms.
But anyway....please clear this all up for us since we misinterpreted your post. :scrutiny:

Post number 8 is what is called "non-denial denial." He does not deny the theft, just dances around the issue.

Assume you mean "righteous judgement". Interesting that you see no "shame" in your actions but take exception to those who have called you on them.

Yes you did... read your first post. And note in your post #8 you do not deny stealing. You try to backpedal from your first post but only succeed making yourself look worse.

You would now have us believe you're a liar but not a thief?

Well actually we know all about you - at least all we need to know - from your own words. As an employer for many years it always boggles my mind when some employees steal and are able to justify their actions in their own mind.

Yes, I am part owner of the company. Nobody claimed the shot at the shop, so it left with me........big deal!

g4string ..Maybe you could leave them a nice big rock to use for a door stop ...I doubt they put any worth to the bag of shot or they wouldn`t have been useing it as a door stop ....I keep my lead under armed guard ..(watch dogs )
