These guys are geniuses. I would say there is a lack of gun control over there. Interestingly enough, no one shot anyone. The guns just "went off" by themselves.

"THREE journalists were hurt when a gun went off at a press conference called by Chinese police to highlight the success of a gun-control campaign.

The press conference in Nanchong in Sichuan province was to publicise the results of a campaign by the city's police to seize illegal weapons, the Beijing News reported.

According to Zheng Chongjun, deputy head of the political division of Nanchong police, some of the reporters asked to take photos of the guns seized, the newspaper reported.

One of the police officials mishandled a homemade weapon, releasing the trigger and dropping it.

It was unclear from the report whether the gun contained bullets or shotgun pellets but it said one journalist needed surgery after being hit in the ankle, crotch, and chest."

I added the bold emphasis. I am terribly lost on the "released the trigger" comment. I would say it is unbelieveable, but it is quite to the contrary. How in the heck does no one check to see if the dang things are loaded?! This is the exact reason I don't let anyone point/aim guns anywhere near my general direction - it doesn't matter if I am in a store or not.

Anybody know how to say "I am the only one in this room profesional enough to have this" in Chinese?

Probably because they're idiots. Just because you give somebody a gun, badge, and the ability to make an arrest doesn't make him a higher being incapable of making a human error.

Is this a state approved news or do they have private news organizations?

Use babel fish to translate and then send them an email :) That is if they accept emails from free nations.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. I thought the article was ironic because the first place I read it was an Australian newspaper to boot. It would have been nice to see a video to find out exactly what happened. You would think someone would have filmed it, being a press conference and all, however, it is China. Its socialist ways have been duly noted and it wouldn't be above them to suppress any vid....hey! Wait a second!

*Capt. Obvious notes that the appropriate govt. agencies also tried to suppress the video of mister "I'm the only one in this room professional enough to, blah, blah, blah....BANG"

Yep, couple that with an illiteracy rate of oh, about 40% and 22 different languages. That's why an AK has only two markings on the left side for reassembly. It's not for reinforcement.:p

Sounds awfully like a zip-gun, which fits the rest of the story- not knowing the projectile type, accidentally discharging the firearm, etc...

I am reminded of a humorous calander a friend had, with "historical events" for each day.

One read, "On this day, in 4175 B.C. the Chinese held the world's first fire drill. It went about like you'd expect.":D

I dunno,

But for some reason, the title of the thread struck my funny bone...

I can see it now...

"Yes, we have taken these evil guns off the street.... now, since we told you this, we must shoot you."

POW POW POW.
