I noticed that at one of the online ammo shops they were selling Chinese steel core ammo. I was thinking about buying some just as a novelty item buy I not sure on their legality. Does anybody know where you might find info or if they are restricted in Texas?

id be careful, its "illegal" to sell that stuff by dealers. if buying through an individual, you are good to go. i too am curious to see what its being sold for.

its a federal restriction. also notice, i said its illegal for DEALERS to sell it... its not illegal to possess or sell if you dont have an FFL. georgia doesnt have restrictions on it either, but dealers cant and wont touch it to sell it.

It used to be common and dirt cheap. Now it is a sold as a specialty item and priced accordingly. :scrutiny:

Steel core 7.62/39

Can't be sold by dealers - Pres. Bill Clinton deemed it to be a "Cop Killer Bullet". The BATF sent me a letter stating the ammo could be used privately but not for sale, the only other option they recommended was to sell back to the importer or to police for there use. So watch who you purchase from.

Possession of steel cor 7.62/39

It is alright to possess - not to sell by a DEALER. The law was written by a Washington bureaucrat, have you ever tried argueing with a bureacrat. Good luck

its just the steel core... it was deemed as "armor piercing" by Klinton and thus "banned" from importation/sale by ffl dealers. you can still buy it, private sales are OK... just cant buy it from a DEALER(meaning, he has an FFL) an accessories dealer(NO FFL) would be ok to buy from too.

... and it's not even armor piercing.

The commies used steel for all parts of their ammo, because it was cheaper and easier to work with.

The alloys used are very close in hardness to the metals they replace: brass, lead and copper.

None of this "chinese steel core" has a hardened steel penetrator core, but rather a soft steel alloy core.

It's just cheap sporting ammo that isn't imported anymore because it's non-lead composition made it a magical "cop-killer" bullet.

dont blame me, i dont care what kind of ammo i have as long as its cheap and fires reliabliy... blame the cops and pencil pushers... the same idiots who labeled hollow point bullets, "cop killers" lol... HP's wont penetrate for CRAP on a bullet proof vest... they should be more worried about ball ammo for that.
