I don't have one, but I've always imagined it would be pretty tough getting that Tripp hybrid follower out of their 7 round welded base plate mag.

I have 4 CMC Powermags and 1 shooting star and haven't had a bit of problems out of any of them.

The Powermag + has a different follower design that does not move forward like the old Devel base of the standard Powermag. My power mags have been loaded for over 4 years and one decided to misfeed the last round occasionally so they all got new springs and followers. I wen't with the Powermag + followers because I never really cared one way or the other with the old style and the work great now. I was amazed that the old springs were 3 inches shorter after being loaded for so long, and still working almost 100%, but almost isn't good enough. I think I'll start replacing/rebuilding after 2 years.

I have had absolutly no problem with any of my CMC power mags with the bumpers

that being said if you get the CMC powermags you CAN just remove the bumbers they are only screwed on the bottom and if you remove the pad its a flush 8 rounder

all of my CMC mags came with the bumper un-installed and had to put the pad on myself

oh edited to add the mag i had the most problems with was a wilson combat mag

Don't go too crazy about name brands and commercial hype! Find one that works and buys some and be happy! I carry a SA 1911A1 on duty and off with 5 Chip McCormick Shooting Stars I got from Brownell's and qualified for 15 yrs 4 times a year, shooting several hundred rds each time without fail. Many brands are excellent, shop around. My mag from Brownell's (5) were less than $90.

You're not describing the PowerMag. You are describing either "Shooting Stars" or the "Match Grade" models. The base pad of the PowerMag and PowerMag+ mags do not screw on. The mags come with the pad installed and are not designed to work without the pad on.
