I have a rem 1100 on Layaway right now, and was planning on SBS'ing it at first, until i saw a Stevens 311 (Yes, the same model that was in Army of Darkness) And was wondering, which one should i buy and SBS, the Stevens needed the wood totally refinished, whereas the rem would require small tweaking to make it run 100 percent in SBS mode. So, which one would you choose? theres nothing like a Semi auto SBS, but then again, the whole "This is my boomstick* appeal the stevens has is there. Help me THR. Also, what mods might i have to do to the 1100 to get it to run, i know enlarged gas port, but anything else? shortened recoil spring?

I have no experience with them, but I have heard that cutting the barrel down too short on some 1100s can be bad for reliability. What ever you do, make sure the gun will function after you are done.

Many semis will have issues if you convert them to SBS. The nice thing about the Benelli is that there's no gass system to worry about.

This is why i was almost considering a Auto-5 for this purpose.

I was led to believe that A-5s and Rem11s are bad choices for SBSs due to reliability problems.

I personally went with a Stoeger sxs to turn into a SBS.

I was now considering an 870, just because, everyone builds them into SBS's, and well...They have the most support, and i know its gonna work out right.

I would definately go with a SXS, but a Stoeger or some other modern import. I know they aren't Parkers or Greeners, but I get alittle ill every time I see an American Original 311 cut up.

Trying to keep it cheap
How about doing up a Rossi or H&R single shot- the stamp will cost you twice the price of the gun :embarrassed:

That said, for eas of making I would go with the breakbarrel- in this instance the Stevens SXS. Anyways, a lopped off SXS always has that classic sexyness to it.

I like 'em in bad shape, I know where to find the parts. My bed side gun was a 311, 19 inch barrels so not SBS. Found it with bulged barrels. Also just picked up a stray set of 12 ga barrels, pretty nasty looking. Would make a neat set of 12 inch barrels. I'll be in the shed all night.
