I have a model 12 Winchester with a cylinder bore barrel. Is it possible to put a choke of some type on it? Would appreciate any help.

If it`s considered a collectable.... Leave it be. collectors want...original.

If it`s just a shooter, choke away.

Collectors be damned, the English maintain their guns all the time. If that requires bluing or refinishing sthe stocks, they have it done.

Look at the older English doubles for sale on Guns International, many have been redone and the prices don't go down.

On of the nicest Model 12's I have seen for sale was restocked, reblued, and thinwall chokes installed. The price $2500.00, that is a big difference from a old clapped out M12 pump that was dragged through the marshes.

Yes, it's possible. Is it a good idea? That depends. If it has a cylinder bore because it's a mint trench gun with US markings you'd be crazy to fiddle with it. If it has a cylinder bore because somebody cut a standard barrel back to 18" and the finish is so-so anyway, go ahead.

Pictures would help.

Saw a Remington Model 10R (Riot) that someone had threaded for choke tubes yesterday.

Probably cut the value of the shotgun in half.... If it's originally a CYL bore, think carefully.

But no matter what, it's your gun.

Thanks for the replies. The gun was my father's and it needs a blue job and the stock needs a bit of cosmetic work. It was made in 1929 and cost 35$. Pretty common gun. I'll heed your advice and leave it alone.

Tell us what it says on the left side of the barrel?

And stick a cleaning rod down the barrel and measure it?

If says IMP CYL, MOD, or FULL, and is less then 26" long?
It has already been cut off, and nothing but good can come out of threading it for choke tubes now.

If it says CYL on the barrel, and measures 20" long?

Thats a whole different 'collector gun' deal.

And Do Not even Think of treading it!!!!

On the left side of the barrel it says: nickel steel, made in USA, Winchester trade mark model 12, 12gauge, CYL. It looks to be a 26 inch barrel.
