I would appreciate some comments and recommendations concerning what you fellas have found to be a good box for hauling all your accessories to the range.

If you have pictures or a link to pictures of your recommendations, that would be very helpful.

Good post. I'd also love to see detailed specs for those who built them and feel generous. I'm wanting to rig one together this winter.

Here is mine. I use two of them. Very simple. <grin>

I have used different tool boxes, tackle boxes, but I think the best is a plain old five gallon bucket, or two of them now a days.

A bucket and tray

Chawbaccer

I've found a bucket and a tray work great on the shooting line. I usually throw a couple of boxes in the back of the SUV, with the just in case stuiff and cleaning materials.

I use a 22 inch toolbox from Harbor Freight. I take my loader, various powders, caps and just about all the paraphernalia I could possibly need. Even Bllistol spray because I wet down my ROA before I leave. I then seal it in a plastic bag as it stiiiiinkssss!!!!! But it ends up being nothing to clean when I get home. Take the grips off, cylinder out and a quick trip through the dishwasher does it.

I use picnic coolers. The small flip top types. They do not look threatening like black range bags and no one would steal a picnic cooler-especially if it is dirty or stained.

I use a Plano 3 tray tackle box.

Here is a plug for Plano.

I stepped on the door of my brand new tackle box and it cracked the door. I called Plano and told them the story. I asked, if I could just buy a new door, or would it be better to just buy another tackle box. They sent me a new door in a weeks time and even paid the shipping. That's great customer service.

fishing tackle box. get a small one holds everything. they have all the holders and seperate spots so you can put different things in.

1950s, 1960s, and some 1970s era Metal Boxes originally used for specific Electric Power Tools can work well as Range Boxes. They have sturdy over center latching Latches and are well built and solid.

I have one from an old "Sawzall'' which I usually use for Cap-n-Ball forays. Someone before me re-painted it, so it is just basic Black.

Old Leather 'Grips' ( resembling so called 'Doctor's Bags' ) are very nice to use also.

I've been resisting getting something high end, like a Gerster. Cost, weight and the inevitable dinging up of such an expensive chest have stopped me. Every time I thought of it things, size, cost, etc just started spiraling out of control. So I just get along with what I have.

I went to a national CAS event nearby. Those guys have huge investments in guns, carts, clothes...everything. I've been resisting jumping off that cliff.

This still makes me wonder. At a State range this summer, two guys from the nearby large town (I ran their plates) showed up with the most magnificent array and collection of cases and guns. Seven guns in all IIRC. Then they opened up everything and proceeded to give all of them a work-out. They had excellent Range manners, but the feeling kept itching the back of my neck, "If the wrong guys followed these two out here, they could gain a collection of several nice guns, with only three shots expended." A plain-jane plastic box attracts a lot less notice than a $250 range box. Is it worth it?? Might save your life.

Maybe they were also carrying concealed and the bad guys would have wound up in the morgue! You never know.

The boxes that I am looking into right now might attract a tool thief; but not a gun thief. Currently, the one at the top of my list says "STANLEY" across the front. :uhoh:

I use a Plano box like this. The different drawers I use for different calibers. I can't get everything into just this one box, but also use just a tackle box for all the rest.
