I had planned on getting a Tikka T3 Laminated Stainless in .223 caliber but the gun is discontinued and my dealer is unable to find it anywhere. My two other guns of interest are the CZ 527 FS and the Howa Classic Laminate Varminter (which is a 24" barrel). Can anyone comment about their experiences with these guns? Thank you.

Dunno 'bout the FS part, but I have a 527 in .204 Ruger. Single set trigger. Shoots .4s @ 100 with my hand loads.

Heard good things about Howa but have never shot one

I too have a CZ527, though it's a .223. I'm currently in the last stages of load developement with it. For a walking varminter, it's a pretty accurate little beast. I'm just working on the question of how far under MOA it's gonna shoot. I think & hope that .5 will be consistently doable. Looks good too. Sometimes though you win the wood lottery with CZ and get one that looks spectacular.

Of course it depends upon what one is planning to do with a gun, but my 527 FS in .223 is probably my favorite rifle to handle and to shoot of the several that I'm fortunate enough to have. I've never put it to a careful test with a good bench and bag setup, and target ammo, but it seems to be an MOA shooter with off-the-shelf hunting ammo and bags on a truck hood or similar makeshift setups. I've heard from others who have really rung theirs out for accuracy and have reported very good results.

There is also the CZ527 American available in .223. It is a little bit lighter, costs about $50.00 less, and because of the straight comb of the buttstock is usually considered to be easier to scope. OTOH, most of us think the fullstock looks better. The true CZ types simply say: Buy both! However, in my case, CZ doesn't make the 527 fullstock with a left hand bolt. Bah! Humbug!!

On a different subject, would your handle be referring to Giacomo Agostini?

I have a Savage .223 varmint rifle but it's a heavy rifle with a 26" bull barrel. It is stainless and it has a H-S Precision stock. It shoots very well. These rifles are becoming very popular for long range shooting my area both in .223 and .308. The club I was going to join has a lot of people winning competitions with this rifle. It's a 12 LRPV if you're interested. Mine doesn't have the fluted barrel but it does have the true target trigger. Some don't have it. Only the single shot models had it the year mine was made. Yes mine is a single shot.

I have a CZ rimfire rifle and it's an excellent rifle but I also have a Savage rimfire which is more accurate than my CZ. Still I like the CZ better. The difference in accuracy isn't very much but the quality of the CZ is much better than that Savage rimfire. The .223 Savage is as solid as they come though.
