I've been toying with getting an upper receiver for one of my AR15s in something other than 5.56mm. While I've been thinking about the .300 Whisper, I was curious about what others may have chosen, and their reasons for that choice. So, my question to you is:

1. What caliber did you choose and why

2. What barrel length did you choose and why

3. Now that you've made the choice, how have things worked out?

Thanks,

Ed

I don't own any part of an AR, but I was figuring that when I do I would get an upper in 6.5mm Grendel with probably an 18-20" tube. That will make it not only a more potent man-stopper in case the SHTF, but it will also be an excellent deer hunting gun. Downside in SHTF is the lack of ability to scavange ammo, but any centerfire rifle cartridge other than 5.56 in an AR will have that problem.

Anyone have info on 6.5 Grendel uppers and ammo? Are there any companies making a commercial hunting load?

I have a Grendel upper. Visit www.competitionshooting.com Arne is a vendor for Alexander Arms, and a co-developer of the cartridge.

It is damn accurate, I can attest to that. .79" 5 shot groups at 200 yards is the best I have gotten so far, and that is very good from an AR platform. I am still working on load development, so there could be better out there also.

With a 18-20" barrel, it would be a great deer cartridge. AA makes some factory ammo, and with a Nosler 120 partition, potent is the word.

You should look into it, I have been enjoying the Grendel for months now...
