Hi guys.

I have a question here -

Choosing a powder to use, I've used about 4 different powders and they all have produced similar/close results. However they all use different amts. of powder (clearly) So, I'm searching for a compromise between cost and performance but since the difference is very minor; Here's what I've used with my AR-15, 1/8 twist, 69gr and produce sub-moa targets.

H335 - messy out of my powder measure, does not drop very consistently. cheapest and groups the least best.

Varget - very very clean, does not stick but I don't like the "compressed" bit.
I think most expensive and groups best.

2230 - Measures very well, clean too, drops very consistently.
mid priced, groups 2nd best but for some reason I'm not too sure about this.

2520 - ditto as 2230.
mid priced, groups 2nd best but for some reason I'm not too sure about this.

So.. Which one would you choose and why? (A note- Powder Valley is out of the Varget 8lb jugs so I can't order that at the moment.. I like ordering from Powder Valley so..)

I shoot "Service Rifle" High Power with a 1/7 twist AR. 99% of competitors out there shoot Varget for the very reason you stated, CLEAN and ACCURATE. Everyone shoots 69gr up to 80gr with VARGET. Don't be TOO concerned about the "compressed" bit. If the compression is reasonable, many powders shoot the best with compressed loads and VARGET is one of em'. However, bullets ABOVE 69gr are "pushing the envelope" on reasonable compression. 99% of competitors will shoot 77gr and heavier on the 600 yd line and THOSE bullets are seated LONG and must be fed one at a time with a SLED. Many shoot the 69gr at the 200-300 yard lines and switch to 77gr and up for the longer ranges out to 1000yrds.

go with the Varget and stop counting pennies. You spent good money on your rifle,so why not wring the best accuracy out of it?
People have been shooting compressed loads for years,so no worrys there, just be sure of your weights.

Isn't it funny how all reloaders, myself included, sweat the small stuff ? Just the nature of the game I guess.
