I would get a 270, it will do everything that the 30/30 will do and then some, with a bolt gun you can get a better trigger ( if you get a savage you can get a accutrigger), the action is stronger than a lever gun so you can push a bullet a bit faster safer. Bolt actions are a good bit more accurate than a lever gun. With practice you can work a bolt gun real fast.

Henry just came out with box magazine .223, .243 and .308 lever action. Get the .308 and live happily ever after.

So get your C&R 03FFL and be on the lookout for good older guns. They can be an investment. If times get rough you'll make money. If things get better, you'll make money. And, you can always hunt with them. Older Marlins are good guns. Older 270's are all over the place. Older 308's ain't that hard to find. Custom built Mausers and Enfields are out there in desirable calibers and they will only go up in price.

Your carry gun is a tool. It needs to be good enough and no better. It's not a show piece. It needs to function 100% and the heck with how it looks. The sights work... If not, get some that will, but not $750 worth. If the Perp is not on the ground in 4, you are doing something wrong ...

Do you have a home defense shotgun? Ain't no pistol goinna stop someone like some 00-buck ...

Go for a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in 45-70 and Kill 2 birds with one stone and take it Elk Hunting!
