Hello everyone my wife just ordered a Remington sps tactical 308 it's my Christmas present. I am super stoked to get this rifle but my question is I have to get a scope for it? I have done a little research and do not know whAt to go with? If anyone has this rifle can give me some suggestions that would be great.

Congratulations on the new rifle, what do you want to use the rifle for (range, hunting/target, et cetera), what features do you want, and most importantly what is your budget (and don't forget about mount/rings as well).

Depends on what you are doing with the gun, target, hunting, sniper/SHTF, also what type of budget, how much do you want to spend, that will give us some idea of what to recommed
 
Cool well I am going to do a lot of target shooting and I plan on hunting I know the 308 is huge for hunting but I really just really want the range my budget is no more than 300 bucks acourding to the wife but you know also I have heard the cut for the mounts are a little diffrent on the Remington 700 tactical I was waiting until I got the rifle hopefully it'll be here this week
 
Hunting: SWFA has a Leupold 3x9 for $199, that leaves $100 for rings mounts and scope covers and probably a box or 2 of ammo. If more magnification wanted for target then you will have to do a quality vs $ equation in your mind. Do you want a high end scope and more power or a lower quality scope with higher power but not as good glass, repeatability of adjustment etc.. for example a Leupold Vari-XII or III which eats up your 300+ or a Bushell Elite or Nikon Buckmaster at 250-280. Remember rings and mounts will run you at least 40-60 bucks. I would get the best glass you can even if it means a month or two of saving before scoping the gun, you will be glad you did in the long run. Check out SWFA/ Samplelist on the net as they have great deals all the time.

yeah starting out I would say 300 once you learn your gun and doping the wind you will probably be able strech it more but only with alot of real world practice. Have some one put targets or metal gongs/targets up at random rages for you and shot them with you estimating the range or use laser at first, its great practice for real world, Also i forgot to mention a bipod will set you back $50+ so budget that as well.
 
Yeah I am definatly going to get the bipod and I am currently stationed at fort lenardwood missiouri there is a personel owned wepons range here but only paper targets but over 1000 yards of range so I will definatly need a spotting scope I would really like to be hitting at 500 yards that's why I really want to get a great scope and I saw the setup that someone had on sniper.com and I was wondering what he had for a scope his groupings were outstanding at 100 yards I just don't want to get a scope I dislike
 
Considering you will be using it hunting I would discourage the use of a scope with target turrets (which is more expensive, so it will also leave you more cash for better glass quality). For about $250.00USD (plus Leupold or other respectable rings and mount), I would recommend the Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40mm with the DOA-600 ballistic reticle (which will help with target work, while not being in the way); or the Nikon Team Primos 3-9x40mm with a similar reticle (standard on that model) for about $50 less.

For target work you may want to consider a second optic that you can swap back and forth depending upon your needs. Of course you can purchase this later as funds permit. Just make sure and get good quick-release mounts for both optics so you can retain your zero with both scopes.

The scope that they used is a Swift 6-18x44mm, and while it is not my favorite scope, there are much worse. My biggest concerns would be weight and too great of magnification for hunting (I would want something with no greater than 4x on the low end and 2x is often helpful for faster target acquisition). One good feature is the locking turrets that is offered, if you use it for hunting make sure and get this feature so you don't inadvertantly turn the knobs in the field and loose zero. They call this feature the "Sur-lok System". Like I said it wouldn't be my choice, but the good news is that the scope is within your budget and it should hold zero fairly well.
