I've decided that instead of buying a new,to me, revolver I really need a good quality chute knife. I'm would like any suggestions for quality makers. I'm willing to spend a MAX of $500.00 but would be very happy to pay less for a quality knife. I would like stag grips and a max blade Length of 4 1/2".

Thanks all...

Jesse Davis, Kim Breed and Gary Wheeler have crafted chute knives for me. The price range you're looking at is reasonable for any of them. Kim and Gary are on THR and you can contact them. I imagine that Stephan Fowler or Fuad Acawi here would make one for you as well.

That should also indicate that it is one of my favorite designs.;)

Originally Parachute or Parachutists knife.

Western made what was probably the first, the W31 Parachutists knife, in WWII.

The design has evolved over the years into sort of a double guard Mini-Fighter in some circles, to a Drop Point hunting knife in others.

Bob Loveless was probably the guy that first used the Chute Knife name on his early design.

PS: Here is a fairly nice kit if you are handy!

Not very similar to what you're describing, the Spyderco Devil Jumpmaster was designed a few years ago for the 82nd Airborne. It's a fully serrated, 4.5" sheepsfoot blade.

OK, one more time for the confused among... well, me. What is a "chute knife"? I'm not seeing a consistent style among the examples. My mind went straight to a military switch blade or riser cutter when I read the topic.

rcmodel,

The military parachutist knives are unrelated to the "Chute" knife that was made for Hary Archer, an old Cold Warrior, by Mr. Loveless. Mr. Archer worked with Mr. Loveless to come up with a compact knife that could perform several bush/defense functions for operatives that were dropped into unfriendly foreign countries by parachute.

Heron ask what Chute Knife meant, and I threw the WWII Western Parachutist knife in to give a frame of reference to the Chute name.

I realize the WWII Western W31 had nothing to do with the Loveless Chute knife design, or todays numerous Chute knife designs, which vary all over the place from the Loveless.

Chute knife

I have a small collection of that design. It is one of my favorites. Currently have an original Dozier-made Morseth, sold by A.G. Russell in 1993; a new Russell Shopmade copy, a Dozier non-catalog design, a large one made by Bob Dozier's son-in-law Dan Crotts, a Loveless design by Hazen in Arizona, and recently scored a fantastic Loveless-style by Bryan Baker of Idaho.

Bob Loveless designed it for Harry Archer, a well-known adventurer and soldier of fortune.
