Cimarron 1851 Richards-Mason Wedge Issue

Hi, Y'All!

This dodo needs someone who can walk me hand-in-hand through the removal of the wedge in a Cimarron 1851 Richards-Mason .38 Spl. I have the flat side of the wedge screw parallel to the wedge itself via a counter-clock side turn but the wedge itself won't budge at all...probably because I don't know how to move it (in or out, all the way or not , etc.). The instruction booklet just says to "remove wedge" - no help at all to me!

I also have a Uberti 1871 Open Top, Early Model Navy Revolver with which the wedge screw won't move at all...sheeeeesh! Any ideas on how to loosen it?!

Tap it out.

You may need to use a punch to reach under the ejector housing.
(Repeat for the 71/72)

I just use the wood handle of a screwdriver and tap it out. Maybe a plastic hammer. Do not use metal on metal as you will ding it up petty bad.


As far a the frozen screw, just use some lock-ease and let it set for a day or so and gently work it loose.

C,slim, these are conversions and have ejector housings that don't lend enough access to the small end of the wedge. Can't just whack it with the butt of a screwdriver ( but, i do use that when i can!!). A brass or a wooden dowle would be fine.

Didnt remember about the screw on the 71, use a correct fitting driver and tap the handle with a small hammer. Dont let the driver bounce out!!
Solvents may affect the finish if left on too long.

Some people will use half a wooden cloths pin against the wedge, then tap the cloths pin with something solid.

The wedge doesn't need to be in much more than finger tight. A light tap should break it free.
