From Eyewitness News ( http://www.eyewitnessnewstv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4875157 ):

Smith & Wesson gun for Cincinnati law

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Smith and Wesson has received an order from the Cincinnati Police Department for eleven-hundred M-andP-9 pistols.

The M-and-P-9 is the newest addition to the Springfield company's military and police series of advanced design polymer pistols. The product line is specially engineered for the military and police.

The pistol will replace the department's existing Smith and Wesson firearms.

The M-and-P Pistol Series has a polymer frame reinforced with a stainless steel chassis with several safety features.

In includes a passive trigger safety to prevent the pistol from firing if dropped and a sear lever release that eliminates the need to press the trigger in order to take the gun apart.

Just out of curiosity, on which S&W firearms do you need to press the trigger in order to take it apart?

Those look like S&W went and copied the Taurus 24/7. :D

They just used same computer program Garbage in garbage out. Today companys seem to try to make their guns as ugly as possible .

Hey - I like ugly guns. Besides that, this thing feels *great* in the hand. Not too light, not too heavy, not too 'fat' (Sig) and not too 'bony' (Glock, some single stacks).

I never got a chance to fire it, but I already want one.

"Wow, that's Ugly!"

and

"Everyone knows S&W can't name a decent auto."

Both went through my head when I saw these things, but they are surprisingly comfortable and both of the ones I handled had a great trigger pull. I haven't had a chance to fire one yet, but at least they make a good impression when you pick them up.

Good for S&W! I have heard that these are great pistols to shoot. If you want to see ulgy check out the pistol that WIlson is offering.

I like the look of the M&P, personally...

Wilson's South African plastic-bastard is quite ugly. Bad move on their part, I do believe.

Kimber's seems to be a pseudo-clone of the M&P where the slide extends above the S&W's "beavertail", I don't know who's actually 'makes' it, or 'designed' it...

One thing is for sure. S&W seriously needs to fire their entire marketing department and find some people who can COME UP WITH EVOCATIVE PRODUCT NAMES!

As to their older autos, one of the basics of marketing with a product number is that you NEVER exceed three digits unless the last few are the same, because most people cannot remember an all-unique-digits four-digit number for long unless it's important to them, and it also affects how it rolls off the tongue. So you can call something a "220" or "229", and that works. A "2000" works, as would something like "3700". But S&W has consistently named things with four-digit numbers of unique numbers...and who but dedicated S&W fans knows which is which?

Say "Two-twenty". Say "Thirty-seven-hundred". Say "Two Thousand".

Then, for S&W, say "Five-nine-four-six". Or "Four-five-one-three".

See?
