Cincinnati police were called in for an incident Thursday that resulted in the first use of the city's new taser guns.
Someone called 911 to report a man acting very unstable in an apartment on Winfield Avenue in Price Hill.

The caller reported the man was walking around in someone's apartment yelling, screaming and foaming at the mouth.

Police arrived on the scene and the man was unresponsive to their voice commands. Police then used a pepper gun, a bean bag round and then a chemical irritant, all to which the man was unresponsive and police were unable to bring him under control.

The taser guns were called in for use for the first time.

Police went in with the taser just after 2 p.m. along with a mental health response team.

The man was tased only once and was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

"The determination was made that he does need help at a medical facility. The taser gun gave us the results we were looking for, he locked up and fell down and we were able to bring him out and he is now receiving the attention he needs," said Police Chief Tom Streicher.

People in the area said the man went by the name of Johnny King.

King appeared to be unconscious as crews put him in an ambulance to be transported to University Hospital.

Police said this incident was a text book example of how the new taser guns should be used.

King remained in the University Hospital emergency room Thursday night and continued to be evaluated.

Sounds like they were lucky this suspect wasn't actively pursuing the Cops. Anyone who can shrug off bean bag rounds, Pepper Balls, and Mace is not someone you want to "tango" with! :what:

Nice that they had a patient perp who was willing to wait around while they tried half a dozen "less lethal" means of stopping him.

Good Deal

Good to see a happy ending. But, they're gonna get even better results once they realize that the Taser is not a miracle cure, last resort, SWAT, Sergeants and supervisors only tool. Its a low level intermediate weapon that belongs with the individual patrol officers, which can often end situations like this one before they turn into full flung operas...
