I've been reading scattered reports across the internet that there may be a civilian version of the IMI Tavor.

Does anyone have any solid information regarding this rumor?

There is a civilian legal version -- in Canada. (Let's all take a moment to let that sink in . . . Canadians have access to super tacticool weapons we can't get in the US . . .).

Anyway, I don't know if anyone with the money to do it is interested in doing the 922(r) parts to make a US legal Tavor. My guess would be we might see someone take a run at it in the next few years if the Obama-ban doesn't materialize. In the interim, I'd think no one is real keen on getting really over-extended in the black rifle market unless their product has a good potential for military/law enforcement sales as well in case things go pear-shaped in Washington.

well if they do, I hope they don't **** up the design like Sig did with the 556 or HK did with the SL8. just put a semi bolt in the damn thing and give it to us, dont mess around with cosmetics.

I have a Buddy in Ontario Canada who has one (he has no money problems) he says it looks nice, but does not seem to be that impressed.

My AUG is good enough for me, with the uncertainty of Florida storms... nice to have a 16" Barreled rifle in your backpack, that snaps together in 2 seconds, magazine already in place, snap bolt to the rear, 30 rounds ready to go.

The Brazilian Army is apparently currently looking for a new main rifle after the domestically developed one, the MD97 .

It is possible that IWI are looking to extend their sales footprint in South America and by licensing the Tavor they get high profile and money in the bank without plant investment.

Taurus gets a (probably) preferential pricing deal and gets the Brazilian government to pony up seed money as well as a mini-max contract.

The Brazilian government gets to say they continue to develop a domestic industry and don't have to worry about the R+D costs.

Don't expect any in the the states, not part of this package and not legal to import without the usual have a local "manufacture and import/assemble" plant in the US a-la FNH and Steyr.

One interesting thing. The Tavor is listed on H.R. 1022 as on of the guns they want to ban.:banghead:
These idiots want to ban something that isn't even available here in the U.S.

When the Tavor first came out, I was really hoping that a U.S. civilian version would become available. But at least for me, the Kel-Tec RFB has greatly undercut the Tavor, and Kel-Tec has indicated that a .223 RFB, presumably STANAG compatible, will be available at some point.

well if they do, I hope they don't **** up the design like Sig did with the 556 or HK did with the SL8.

They had to because of 922r, and if the Tavors are made in Brazil odds are unless they do what Steyr is doing now, we will get some ugly guns.
