Clay Thrower

Yes. Don't like that cocker thinghy, at all. Yes bending over and cocking them isn't great fun, but having your foot slip off that just once is worse, trust me. Get the simplest one you can find in my opinion. I also like to stand on the frame and trip it with a string, because otherwise it will wallow the holes in the ground out and produce less force.
Good luck.
Oops. I looked again, and it appears that one just has the foot trip, not the foot cocker. I still like to stand on it with both feet and use a string.

clay

Yes, I have one. I like it and use it frequently. I have no big complaints about using it. I have never had my foot slip off the foot trigger. Very easy to cock. The legs do tend to shift after release - a function of the throwing arm but that's no big deal.

Used to a while ago - then I discovered how much more fun and challenging the clays are at my local club where they can throw then at regulation speeds and distances.

It works OK and may stay put, depending on the type of soil you have - many folks take an old tire and fill it with concrete and place the legs in it for more stability

I would save up and get the Do All White Quail automatic thrower... I got mine for about 275 shipped after shopping around on the internet... its been awesome...

I guess I just don't see the reason why to spend 100 bucks on a manual thrower when at 275 you could get the auto thrower

I have one and it works. I read the reviews on a lot of other ones that were cheaper but poorly reviewed, but the Trius One Step got great reviews. I think I even searched this site for them. I like mine, but haven't used many other models so have little to compare it to. I put the clay in, step on it and shoot and smile.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I only shoot clays a few times a year so I dont want to spend a bundle. The ability to use it by myself is appealing.

petrey10 - I'm flush this month with some expendable cash for a gun related treat. Would you mind telling me where you found the Do All White Quail automatic thrower for $275?

Thanks.....Doc

I have had a Trius for a few years, pretty much straight away shots and singles I find best for it.
For me money well spent being able to going out now and then by myself to break some birds and have some fun.

sorry i didnt get back to you.... I just googled Do All White Quail and used the shopping link to compare about 20 different businessses that carried the thrower... its an awesome thing to have...

Once you go automatic going back to manual just is not much fun. I ended up with the DO All Aerial Assault with the remote and wobble kit, talk about fun. Give the remote to a kid and tell them to push it when they want to. With the launcher behind the truck out of sight you never know when or where the clays are going, much more challenging.

I just purchased a Champion SkyBird at a local farm store for $70.00. Added a homemade foot trigger and am having fun!
I was very surprised at how little it moves when released. Also, I have cleaned up the ratchet mechanism since this photo was taken. It now stops at the 9 o-clock position (3/4 cock) as designed.

47CubPilot - From your join date it looks like you've been lurking in the shadows! :D Welcome as a first-time poster to THR. :)

Thanks for the pic showing your foot release. I have a Trius Trap that I'm going to jury-rig the same way.

BTW, I got my seaplane rating in a J-3 Cub and I've got about 100 hours in a PA-18 Super Cub. That was some of the best seat-of-the pants flying ever!.....Doc

Lurking and doing a lot of reading and learning. I've been shooting rifles since I was a teenager and handguns for about 10 years. I just purchased my first shotgun, Mossburg 500. So that's what I have been reading and learning the most about.:D
I've been flying since I was 16 (42 years) and the Cub is about as fun as it gets!

Once you start shooting at your local gun club where the targets are faster and further, you'll sell the handthrower...........it may cost more, but the fun and challenge is worth it
