Hey guy's I was wondering if any of you could explain the general differences between trap, sporting clays, and skeet. I just got a do all clay thrower with a single arm and I'm interested in how the different games work. As I understand it, one of the games involves multiple throwers and some walking around. Barring that one in particular, it sounds like I could replicate the other two. Thanks a lot!

Trap...the clays are always going away from you.The machine you have is geared really for this game.
Skeet...the clays go away, come at you,and cross 2 of em in front of you.
sporting clays....requires multiple untis that will toss em out,up,on the ground rollers(rabbits)etc.
some clubs offer all of em.Maybe one near you has em,and you can go watch and see how they're done.
Most folks use diff. guns for each game.or at least diff. barrels and chokes.

One thing I will add on Sporting Clays is that there are two types:

1. Walk through Sporting Clays: You generally walk a wooded course and the clays come from traps hidden from view and at varying directions and distance. In most cases you shoot from a marked point on the course and call for the targets. You have both singles, doubles, rabbits and the target size varies also. A round count can vary on this type of course but usually runs 50 targets. Many change choke tubes on this type of course due to ranges varying from 15 to 45 yards.

2. Five Stand Sporting Clays: Generally laid out on skeet, trap range and sometimes they use these traps in addition to the ones used for other angles. You have 5 shooting positions and a certain set # of targets from each stand. This game is all about timing and after shooting it several times becomes much like shooting skeet or trap with very little walking involved. Other than having the rabbit target all the 5 stand I have shot all had the same size clays. A round consists of 25 targets. A skeet or imp. cylinder choke seems to work well for the 5 stand targets.

Walk through Sporting is much more fun to me but it is generally more costly also. Hope this answers your question ....... :) .

One of them is a LOT of fun, trap & skeet aren't :)

Just kidding, they're all fun.

Here's a link that explaines all the games: http://www.claytargetsonline.com/aboutthegames.php
