Clean Ruger GP 100 6" revolver

Ruger used to say that the steel they used in their blued revolvers was a bit stronger than their stainless. Just an interesting bit of trivia. That's second hand information.
I heard this as well. I don’t know from where.

More than you ever wanted to know on the topic in the link below. As a practical matter, materials engineers must balance expense, corrosion resistance, strength, machining qualities, dimensions, weight, hardness/edge retention and a host of other variables to reach a reasonable balance. Remington got into hot water years ago when they stuck with a relatively inexpensive alloy for their barrels. Tikka ultralight rifles also exhibited a tendency to fracture at one point in their product development arc. Supplier process controls and test regimes also come into play.

$550 is an excellent price for a clean GP100. These revolvers were built to stand up to the sustained use of heavy loads. You can’t wear one out. And if I had seen that gun at that price first, you never would have seen it.
