So I've had a Mosin-Nagant for a while. (YEARS)
Always had a dark bore with noticeable pitting. Shot a match Sunday and when cleaning it thought what if ..
What if what ?
What if I plugged the muzzle and filled the barrel with PB Blaster penentrating oil. Soaked for 12 hours, scrubbed with bronze brush, soaked for 12 more. Drained of black oil, swabbed, flushed with gun oil, swabbed again.
SHINEY BORE ... Still pitted but bright.

In my experience that would help. But Hard to say. I have one but if I want an accurate rifle I shoot something else. Might want to try JB bore paste as well.

Used bore paste when I first got it. Helped on initial clean but not this clean.

Had to shoot it this past weekend.
Winter war match. Requirement was iron sighted Mosin, 50, 100 and 200yd targets.
5°, sunny with no wind.

Been down this road before with a dark bore. Got it nice and clean and groups opened up a bit until it fouled some and settled down. So now I don’t bother other than scrub out the powder fouling and make sure it doesn’t rust further. Hoppes, five to ten passes with a brush, little more hoppes , couple dry patches followed by an oily patch and done. It’s never gonna be a match rifle.

Won't take much to foul it again ... :what:

I wouldn't recommend doing this and then shooting without a re-zero.
