I'm thinking about getting a Marlin 1894C and was wondering what cleaning it entailed? Does the 1894C require field-stripping to be cleaned? And if so, how difficult/involved is that?TIA
Basic cleaning only requires that you remove the lever and bolt, and clean the barrel from the breech end. It might take a few times to become proficient at re-installing the bolt and ejector, but it's not difficult at all. As with any gun - pay attention to the relationship of the parts BEFORE and DURING the disassembly process. Jot down some notes, or make a sketch, if you need to.
As Atticus says, it's not that difficult. The worst thing I ever did with mine was accidentally push the bolt all the way forward without getting the lever back in place. It took about 5 minutes of cussing and maneuvering to get it back out.
