A few weeks ago I decided to dump my really dirty walnut media and start with new treated walnut. After dumping the old media, I discovered that I did not have enough fresh walnut media to refill my vib case cleaner. Oh!, I just remembered that I had a bag of corn cob media that I got as a door prize at a shoot. I added the requesite amount of the corn cob stuff to fill my case cleaner and filled it with dirty brass. I discovered three things:
1. The brass circulated faster in the mix of corn cob and walnut (about half and half)
2. It cleaned a lot faster
3. It polished better than ever
And, it does it in a shorter time!

New media cleans better than old media. Treated media should produce a more lustrous shine than untreated media. No doubt using two media simultaneously with different characteristics had an effect, but it might be that a lot of what you saw was due to getting rid of the old media and replacing it with new, treated media.

Most claim walnut cleans faster & better while corn cob polishes the shiniest. Personally I rarely use ether. When I do it is for removing the polish I lube to size with. I like the lizard litter because I doesn't get stuck in the cases. Mine is years old.

I use a treated corn cob media. I'm still using the same jug that I bought when I began reloading well over 2 years ago. I found adding a bit of NuFinish car polish to it really makes the brass shine, makes it a bit slicker for easier resizing on the press and keeps it from tarnishing while its sitting around. I put a little media in the tumbler then sprinkle about a half cap full around on it. Then I cover that with just a little bit more media, add brass then add the rest of the media.

Let it mix in for 5 mins before adding brass. The wet polish can get inside of a case and probably won't come out while tumbling. I caught it on a 9mm, youd never notice on a 223.
