cleaning lead deposits

I have read recently that ballistol (a great cleaner for black powder) does a good job at cleaning smokeless powder guns but it leaves behind lead deposits. Does anyone know a good lead remover that does the trick? What about shooter's choice lead remover?

The best lead remover I have ever seen barr nothing Is pure copper pot scrubbers.

I purchase the "pure copper" pot scrubbers, pull them apart and cut just enough scrubber to wrap around an old bore brush. You will know when you have enough copper mesh when the brush&mesh fit nice and snug when pushing down the bore. Repeat this bore scubbing 2-3times and run a clean patch through the bore. Inspect the bore. Its truly amazing how well it works!

It is imperitive that you make sure you get the "PURE COPPER" scrubbing pads. Some scrubbing pads are copper plated steel wool. You dont want that!

To make sure of your purchase, just take a small magnet with you to the store. If tbe pot scrubber doesnt attach itself to the scrubber pad, it should be "PURE COPPER".

By the way, any common lead remover brand used with this method will produce a shiny, clean, lead free bore.

lead removal is 90% scrubbing. Its a soft metal and scrubbing with anything will get it out, it isnt that tough to do. The copper pot scrubber does make it easier for sure.

If you don't want to use stuff designed for scrubbing pots and pans, bronze wool wrapped on an old bore brush works good too.

Also removes surface rust without damaging the underlying finish.

The copper scrubbers are what I use and I think they're the easiest way I've found with rifles. Now with pistols I have a lewis lead remover kit for all the calibers I shoot lead in. They work like a charm. You can get em from Brownells and Missouri Bullet Company. I really enjoy using them. I only use them every once in a while, I've worked my loads to about perfection so they dont lead much at all if any.

get the copper scrubber, its so easy and I just put a bit of ballistol on it and it goes away in no time. Follow up with a few tight patches on a jag and you're done.
