So I'm the proud new owner of a 1943 Mosin Nagant. I've heard several ways of getting all the cosmoline off of it, things like letting the stock sit in my attic all summer, to using a steamer, to using brake cleaner. The finish on the stock is pretty darn good so I would like for it to be pretty non-corrosive to that.
Also, what are some things I should look for when inspecting it to make sure it is in good working order?
Thanks
