I went to the range and shot my mosin nagant 91/30 and used Romanian Berdan primed corrosive ammo. I than some how forgot to clean the rifle. I was inspecting my firearms, three monts later, when I noticed something was wrong with the mosin. I have run hundreds of patches and cleaning rods through it trying to get it cleaned. Does anyone have any advice on methods or solvents? I have tried kroil oil and foaming bore cleaners, any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Stick the barreled receiver in a leather padded vise and go to work. I like to alternate between bore gel and a copper cleaner, with periodic blasts of M-pro spray to clean the slate.

What's in there? Have you done boiling water through it followed by Windex on a patch? Then #9 and finish with a patch of Barastol?

Stupid question: what does the windex do?

Windex is made from ammonia that will dissolve the corrosive salts. Alternatively, you can just buy a cheap jug of ammonia for like 99 cents and then make a solution from it by mixing with water. Use it to wash the salts out of your barrel before your regular cleaning regiment.

Ammonia helps get copper out too...

A trick I've learned to get the junk out (after shooting before they rust).

Get a transmission funnel that will fit in the receiver and down into the chamber. Boil some water in a tea pot. Carefully dump the boiling water into the funnel. You can hook the front sight on the edge of a five gallon pail, the side of your bathtub, or even the toilet seat to catch the water. Follow this with hoppes.

Dang it.... I forgot about using ammonia solution first. Yep, it'll help as much as anything.......

Hoppes worked for me, well that and lots of patches. You could just go shoot a round out before cleaning, that probably would quickly remove the rust. Just dont count on driving any tacks with that one.
